Denis Villeneuve chose the take where his outburst remains contained, as if K were still trying to maintain control. Roger Deakins filmed with a handheld camera very close to Gosling’s face to capture every micro-reaction.

Emily Blunt nearly fainted the first time she wore one and broke down in tears, but Tom Cruise reassured her, saying it would look more natural on screen if she embraced the real difficulty. Ever the perfectionist, Cruise insisted the actors wear the actual suits instead of relying on CGI to enhance the realism.
