Twin. Pulled this calf to take to bottle pens. He is a huge bull twin. Mom took sibling and left. Already had first round of colostrum so will be getting another bottle soon as we arrive. Pretty nice calf as our final stragglers calves from herd. Lack a few head of being done

Rattlesnake bite on face. This heifer is swollen and snotty from snake bite. She is breathing normally and walking well. Eyes and nostrils are puffed and swollen but functional. We will give her an antibiotic to help w infection but otherwise she should recover in few days.

Well pulling. This irrigation well needs repairs so we are having it pulled. Original well was drilled in 1930’s so going on 90 years or so Guessing this will be an expensive fix. - will prolly leave a dent 🫤

Bottle calf. This is the bottle babe twin that we pulled this weekend. Cow had moved on w sibling and left this one alone. We pulled him after 10 hrs just to see if anyone came back for him. Strong healthy calf. Easily the best learning calf ever to take the bottle. He’s a champ

Night crew. Rains in forecast so we are pushing hours to get acres planted. I’m running for Braden now. Computers are monitoring planting population and depth as well as seed placement. First time on planter for me this season. Rolling at 4.9 mph 😏

Hantavirus hotel. Been in many an old truck or barn with mice residue. Believe I read that repeated exposure helped build a minor resistance to the virus but not sure. Seeing it come across posts as there is an active case in Kansas with related exposures to others.

#88’ She’s a trooper. We are planning to move everyone tomorrow as we have done about all we can with this three week limited diet. We bring in feed every morning for her group then watch consumption. She has been on a diet to help keep calf from getting larger. Time will tell

Performance over pretty. This is 40’ out of our main herd. She isn’t the prettiest or heaviest of cows but year in and out she produces one of our top 5 calves each season for quality and value. Not the most red or anything identifying but just winning. Calf queen🏆

#88’ Waiting…. Afternoon update. No progress as herd has been laying down mostly. Thunderstorms predicted for tonight. We will be ready

USA Cattle. Consumer demand is tremendous for high quality US beef - the national herd is rebuilding…. We need proper identification of imported beef and no longer tolerate it being packaged as product of USA ⁦Secretary Brooke Rollins⁩ Thank you for your attention to this matter.

449’. This heifer had a uterine prolapse and need stitched back up. During birth she prolapsed or expelled and needed cleaned up and reset her uterus followed by stitches to hold in place. Difficult day and procedure for her. Will be watching a lot for next few days

Trick-or-Tank. After a scary weak on the cattle markets nobody is dressed up tonight. These calves lost over $200 a head in value this week — boxed beef — what you buy in the grocery stores was higher again for the week 🫤🫤🫤🫤

Time lapse of storm hitting Big Bow and neighboring houses. This is a couple minute condensed to 16 seconds Wheat fields have greened up we have good residue and cover. This likely isn’t our swks dirt but being shared from further west. If winds hit hard we could add to it 🫤

Big calf! Saw feet first thing this morning. Gave her about 15 minutes(tagged another calf) to check progress. Not much change (tagged another calf) and 15 minutes later she had this big heifer. Think we were much more concerned than cow was 🫤

Snakebite. She has recovered now and showing no real signs of the venom. Face has returned to normal and swelling is basically gone. She has lost weight as eating prolly wasn’t easy or comfortable. Looks like all good

Wheat is headed and starting to flower/pollenate. You can see the wind blowing the waves of wheat across the field. Harvest is going to be very early for Kansas if warm dry weather continues to plague the central US. Forecast says cold and damp so maybe we get by

Update: heifer had no interest in calf - was really more scared of it than trying to mother. Wouldn’t eat alfalfa we put in pen to calm her. Don’t think she remembers calving Thanks for suggestions. Think it would have been fine in pen w cow but a first year heifer ?!???!!??

Red angus. This little bull calf is just an hour or two old. He is up and moving. He has a great little frame and muscle development for newborn. Color is perfect for breed and winning

Well we got this calf tubed the balance of milk bottle. So much drama and fussing but now we are getting along ok now that it’s over. Lot of fight in this two day old

Another gold medal 🏆 472’ heifer with a fresh newborn. Very attentive to calf face to clear mucus and stimulating breathing. The coos establish audio imprinting of mother’s voice to newborn. This is perfect behavior for first calf cow. Excellent! Winning 🏆

A White Buffalo calf — just off the Fort Hays State University campus and next to the historic Fort Hays Ks site is this young white Buffalo. Had heard about him but hadn’t driven by to see until today — Note moms eartag name

20 tons of manure per load. This is stockpiled manure from feeder pens that is 6 months to a year old generally. With the very high price of commercial fertilizer we are glad we were able to speak for a big chunk this winter. This isn’t cheap but it will last a bit longer

Nilla and calf. Haven’t seen them paired up in a while as they seem to often be on the move. Grass is going dormant again but chances of rain are forecast but nothing promising yet Calf is more blonde than expected in color though I don’t know why we expected any different

February. You can hear the calves and birds calling at sunset on a warm end to Feb. Faith is not about everything turning out ok. Faith is about being ok no matter how things turn out. This was one of the best February’s for me ever. I am very happy and blessed ✅

Gonna call this a win. This is the big bull calf that we pulled a few days ago. Front joints and head are still a bit swollen and he is stiff. Got him up again and he is now going to work on eating. Heifer did a great job staying nearby and encouraging. Gonna call this a win 🏆

Rattlesnake bite this was first pic that we had taken. She is heavy swollen but breathing is normal. Will recheck in morning to check on her health. Not uncommon to see this stage but expect her to begin to reduce in swelling around eyes then cheeks as she metabolizes venom

2319’ heifer and new heifer calf. This is the heifers first calf born on a chilly 5 degree morning according to my pickup temp. Cow has calf cleaned off and dry so no fear of loosing ears or tail. Temps will warm to 50’s today. Cow is in excellent condition and body. Winning!

427’ showing a string calf this afternoon. Nursed and satisfied she has gotten her colostrum milk yesterday and this morning so she should have a full dose of antibodies for the future. Good little calf for Nilla

Here is a mother &amp; calf in the same pasture. This bull calf was born today nearby our 88’. Tomorrow we work to make the adoption hold. 88’ has a condition that caused her to carry a huge amount of heavy dense fluid around the calf. We will begin looking after her recovery.

That’s how it’s done ! Spray pilot comes down to trim field edge. Misses trees and farm place down low to apply product to field - along power poles on one side with a small bump over sprinkler then back down to finish before a hard pull up to miss power lines at end of field 🏆

Checked on replacement heifers. These are our calves born this spring. They are aging well and starting to size up. We will pelvic measure and weigh for size to see who makes the cut. Good healthy herd here. Weather continues to be excellent

Important historical find!! Driving tractor sometime you see objects of value like an old hammer or tool. Often it is trash or such and then there are great treasures 🙃 Dating of this artifact is believed between 1000-1500 days old perhaps even older

Jack rabbit. When scarred they will often run a deception by running to partner who will take off to fool chaser with fresh legs while original will rest. Soon the secondary will return and switch off w original. Almost captured it here while checking fence

Boys came over for a talk this morning. I was on a call for a while so they listened in Everyone looks strong and healthy. Good calf crop here

Snowfall yesterday and last night didn’t add up to forecasts but we were not in the heavier range. Cold here this morning. These heifer calves are out eating on wheat pasture while the main group stayed in the tall Milo stalks this morning. Glad to see they can get to wheat
