In Seinfeld, Heidi Swedberg played Susan Ross, the girlfriend of Jason Alexander's character George Costanza. While filming Seinfeld, Jason Alexander repeatedly said he struggled with Heidi Swedberg’s comedic timing and rhythm on set, making scenes with her difficult. Julia Louis-Dreyfus didn’t fully get it at first but came around after sharing scenes with Swedberg during Season 7. At a post-episode cast dinner, Julia expressed frustration after working with Swedberg and joked, “Don’t you just want to kill her?” Showrunner Larry David embraced the idea and chose to write Susan out of the series in a memorable, darkly comedic manner. In the Season 7 finale episode, “The Invitations,” Swedberg's character, Susan, died after licking the toxic glue on cheap wedding invitation envelopes that the cheapskate George insisted on buying. The group’s indifferent reaction, with George being relieved that he no longer has to get married, became one of the show’s most infamous moments. In 2015, Jason Alexander later walked back and apologized for parts of the story, clarifying that he liked Heidi Swedberg personally, that she was professional and willing to adjust, and that the decision wasn’t solely about her or meant to be personal. He pointed out that his previous remarks about her were misconstrued. Still, many believe the anecdote about Julia's joke was true. This chapter of "Seinfeld" fits in with the show's style... ruthless, selfish humor with no sentimentality. #Seinfeld #TheInvitations #HeidiSwedberg #SusanRoss #Costanza
