Hamas has no respect for international law, but we do. Civilians and hospitals in Gaza must be protected. We need steps towards a ceasefire, but it cannot be one-sided.

At a time like this, trusted friends matter more than ever. This week with Anthony Albanese I visited Malaysia, a vital trading partner. Australia is a trusted supplier of natural gas, and Malaysia is an important supplier of refined fuel. We rely on each other, and we’re stronger for it.

This feels like an obvious thing to say, but it’s best not to make up statements by the President of Indonesia.

Australia is committed to a constructive and stable relationship with China, which is in the interests of both our countries. This is my third visit to Beijing as Foreign Minister, because regular, open dialogue helps us progress our interests and manage our differences.

Due to military strikes and reprisal attacks, we are urging Australians not to travel to Israel, Lebanon, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. We continue to advise Australians not to travel to Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen. Australians should reconsider their need to travel to Jordan.

Australia is alarmed by the escalation and loss of civilian life in Lebanon and in Israel. Now is the time for restraint and de-escalation. Further hostilities put tens of thousands of civilians at risk.

My statement in response to the Iranian attacks on Australians.

The deaths of Zomi Frankcom and her colleagues are outrageous and unacceptable. They only make more urgent our call for the Netanyahu Government to comply with the demands of the international community.

A major Israeli ground operation in densely populated Rafah would bring further devastation to more than a million civilians seeking shelter. Our message to Israel is: listen to the world; do not go down this path.

Sport brings people together, and Australia and Fiji know this better than most. Together with Pat Conroy MP it was great to join a Team Up rugby clinic in Suva yesterday, seeing firsthand how sport builds leadership, empowers young people and strengthens communities
