VICTIM RESCUED AFTER 7-HOUR TECHNICAL CLIFF RESCUE AT DEAD MAN’S POINT SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The San Francisco Fire Department has completed a 7-hour technical cliff rescue at Dead Man’s Point in Land’s End, Presidio. As a United States Coast Guard helicopter arrived, dense fog returned, making air rescue unsafe. With the cliff perch becoming increasingly unstable, SFFD rescue technicians developed a controlled plan with the victim in mind. The victim slid down the cliff face in a controlled descent and landed on the shoreline sustaining minor injuries. SFFD rescue swimmers were staged in the water and immediately assisted the adult victim through heavy surf to a waiting SFFD rescue boat. Rescue swimmer Paramedics evaluated and treated the victim who was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One SFFD rescue swimmer sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the emergency room. The firefighter is expected to make a full recovery. This rescue was conducted in extreme terrain and severe weather. On May 28, 2026, at 1:20 PM, the San Francisco Fire Department received a report of a surfer in distress at Ocean Beach near Lincoln. At the same time, an off-duty National Park Service lifeguard who was surfing in the area, along with three on-duty NPS Ocean Rescue lifeguards, noticed a local surfer waving their hands above thier head—a recognized sign of distress—just outside the surf line at Ocean Beach. They immediately swam toward the location. Upon reaching the distressed surfer, the lifeguards found an adult surfer who was face down, unconscious, and not breathing. They initiated a rescue and began life-saving measures while bringing the victim back to the shoreline. Paramedics from the San Francisco Fire Department arrived shortly afterward and continued with advanced life support care. The individual was ultimately transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The San Francisco Fire Department commended the quick actions of both the off-duty and on-duty ocean patrol lifeguards, as well as the early 911 callers, emphasizing their essential role in rescuing the surfer. Firefighters arrived on scene within minutes of dispatch and confirmed a working one-alarm fire on the second floor of a two-story, multi-unit residential dwelling. Crews initiated an aggressive interior fire attack and rescued one adult victim from the fire building. The victim was assessed by SFFD paramedics on scene, is expected to be OK, and did not require hospitalization. Multiple family pets were also located and are safe. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and place it under control at 07:34 AM, within one hour of arrival. 6 adults are displaced and are being aided by Red Cross Central California The cause of the fire is under investigation. Avoid the area of California between Hyde and Leavenworth. There will be an ongoing investigation. We have many ambulances coming into the area to deal with the 14 patients that we are treating here. We have minor to moderate injuries at this location.

Today SFFD members conducted a training exercise that involved rescue swimmers, rescue boat operators, and rescue water craft personnel to simulate a water rescue. Things to know before going near the water. What is a sneaker wave? A sneaker wave is a large, unexpected wave that surges much farther up the beach than normal waves. They can appear without warning, even on calm days, and have the power to knock people off their feet and pull them into the ocean. Sneaker wave safety tips: 1. Stay off wet sand and rocks. Sneaker waves can reach much higher than you expect. 2. Never turn your back on the ocean. Watch the water at all times. 3. Keep kids and pets close. Waves can move faster than you can react. 4. If someone is swept in, don’t go in after them. Call 911 immediately and throw something that floats. 5. Check local conditions. Tides, swell, and weather can increase risk.

UPDATE- FIRE CONTAINED Early this morning, shortly after 3:00 AM, San Francisco firefighters responded to a fire at 50 Golden Gate, a six-story multi-residential complex located in the Tenderloin District. The firefighters executed an impressive and aggressive attack on the fire, which originated on the sixth floor, successfully preventing it from spreading to the lower floors and nearby buildings. The fire quickly escalated to a three-alarm incident, affecting the sixth floor, attic, and roof of the building. The firefighters executed an impressive and aggressive attack on the fire, which originated on the sixth floor, successfully preventing it from spreading to the lower floors and nearby buildings. The fire quickly escalated to a three-alarm incident, affecting the sixth floor, attic, and roof of the building. Quarterback FF/PM Jay Weber calls an audible, and KOBE is rescued by Receiver FF/EJ Nave in a stunning play! 🏈 The play starts with canine KOBE falling into the Bay and getting stuck, with nowhere to go for help, but the rescue team isn't having it. They lure him back to the bay with a clever tactic, and it's Rescue Boat 35 to the rescue! Rescue Swimmer FF/EJ Nave deployed, buoy secured, Kobe is brought back to safety! The crowd goes wild as Kobe reunites with his human companion, tired but grateful for the excellent care from #YOURSFFD and his owner. *FINAL PLAY:* Kobe's safe, sound, and home with his family. The fire department’s land and marine rescue teams arrived swiftly and met with the owner, who reported that her dog had jumped into the water after chasing a bird. With no way to escape, the dog was swimming frantically and becoming increasingly exhausted. The SFFD Paramedic Rescue Boat 35 (RB35) operated by Firefighter/Paramedic Jay Weber, located the dog, named Kobe, underneath a pier. Using voice commands, the rescue boat was able to lure Kobe to open water and deployed a rescue swimmer FF/EJ Nave. RB35 secured a buoy around the dog and brought him back to the boat. Kobe was then reunited with his owner and received care from the SFFD and his human. He is now home safe and resting with his family. Incident closed!
