In this incredible demonstration from the Maritime Technical and Safety Institute in Japan, a large wave tank uses many synchronized wave-generating devices to create visible symbols and patterns on the surface of the water. Each paddle produces a small wave, but when many waves are emitted at specific timings, amplitudes, and phases, they begin to overlap. Where the wave crests reinforce one another, the water rises. Where a crest meets a trough, the motion cancels out. This is called interference, and it is one of the most fundamental principles of wave physics. VICTIM RESCUED AFTER 7-HOUR TECHNICAL CLIFF RESCUE AT DEAD MAN’S POINT SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The San Francisco Fire Department has completed a 7-hour technical cliff rescue at Dead Man’s Point in Land’s End, Presidio. As a United States Coast Guard helicopter arrived, dense fog returned, making air rescue unsafe. With the cliff perch becoming increasingly unstable, SFFD rescue technicians developed a controlled plan with the victim in mind. The victim slid down the cliff face in a controlled descent and landed on the shoreline sustaining minor injuries. SFFD rescue swimmers were staged in the water and immediately assisted the adult victim through heavy surf to a waiting SFFD rescue boat. Rescue swimmer Paramedics evaluated and treated the victim who was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One SFFD rescue swimmer sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the emergency room. The firefighter is expected to make a full recovery. This rescue was conducted in extreme terrain and severe weather. Crews faced: - Steep cliffside terrain with loose, unstable rock - Unstable cliffside/perch that deteriorated during the operation, creating a fall hazard for the victim and rescuers - Dense fog and changing weather that reduced visibility to near zero and repeatedly grounded air operations - Heavy brush limiting access and anchor points - Challenging surf conditions on the shoreline during extraction SFFD thanks all partner agencies for their support during this complex incident: San Francisco Police Department drone unit, United States Park Police, United States Coast Guard, and all collaborating agencies.

A 33-year-old tourist from Karnataka died after being swept away by powerful waves while sitting on rocks at Baga Beach in north Goa, officials said on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Sahas Ashpak Masali, a resident of Karnataka's Bijapur district. According to preliminary information, Masali was sitting on rocks along the shoreline when a series of strong waves, triggered by rough sea conditions, swept him into the water. Despite immediate efforts to trace him, he was carried away by the powerful currents. Authorities launched a search and rescue operation shortly after the incident. After several hours of searching, rescue teams recovered his body from the shoreline. A video purportedly capturing the incident has since gone viral on social media, underscoring the dangers of venturing onto rocky stretches during rough sea conditions. The footage appears to show a man struggling in the turbulent waters near the rocks after being overwhelmed by the waves. With the sea churning violently and visibility poor, an immediate rescue was difficult, while onlookers on the shore could be heard reacting in shock as the incident unfolded. Following the tragedy, officials once again urged tourists to stay away from rocks along the coastline and avoid entering the sea during high tide or periods of rough weather. They warned that powerful waves can strike without warning, making rocky coastal areas particularly dangerous.
