Today SFFD members conducted a training exercise that involved rescue swimmers, rescue boat operators, and rescue water craft personnel to simulate a water rescue. Things to know before going near the water. What is a sneaker wave? A sneaker wave is a large, unexpected wave that surges much farther up the beach than normal waves. They can appear without warning, even on calm days, and have the power to knock people off their feet and pull them into the ocean. Sneaker wave safety tips: 1. Stay off wet sand and rocks. Sneaker waves can reach much higher than you expect. 2. Never turn your back on the ocean. Watch the water at all times. 3. Keep kids and pets close. Waves can move faster than you can react. 4. If someone is swept in, don’t go in after them. Call 911 immediately and throw something that floats. 5. Check local conditions. Tides, swell, and weather can increase risk.

UPDATE: SFFD units at Ocean Beach along with the SFPD drone unit are currently searching the area. Coastguard helicopter is en route to assist with this search and rescue. If you are the owner of a blue and white surfboard and are safe, please call 911 and identify yourself.

9 more SFFD firefighters in 3 Type 6 pickup trucks just left to the Palisades Fire in Southern California. These trucks are smaller in size and more maneuverable in tighter spaces. San Francisco fire department is on the scene at 1351 California St. between Leavenworth and Hyde with 14 patients who have been injured from a cable car that came to an abrupt stop. Avoid the area of California between Hyde and Leavenworth. There will be an ongoing investigation. We have many ambulances coming into the area to deal with the 14 patients that we are treating here. We have minor to moderate injuries at this location.

The NFL has the Super Bowl today, and #yoursffd has the Super Save! Quarterback FF/PM Jay Weber calls an audible, and KOBE is rescued by Receiver FF/EJ Nave in a stunning play! 🏈 The play starts with canine KOBE falling into the Bay and getting stuck, with nowhere to go for help, but the rescue team isn't having it. They lure him back to the bay with a clever tactic, and it's Rescue Boat 35 to the rescue! Rescue Swimmer FF/EJ Nave deployed, buoy secured, Kobe is brought back to safety! The crowd goes wild as Kobe reunites with his human companion, tired but grateful for the excellent care from #YOURSFFD and his owner. *FINAL PLAY:* Kobe's safe, sound, and home with his family. Incident closed! 😎 ——————————————————— At 2:30 PM today, the San Francisco Fire Department received multiple 911 calls about a dog that had fallen off a pier near McCovey Cove. The fire department’s land and marine rescue teams arrived swiftly and met with the owner, who reported that her dog had jumped into the water after chasing a bird. With no way to escape, the dog was swimming frantically and becoming increasingly exhausted. The SFFD Paramedic Rescue Boat 35 (RB35) operated by Firefighter/Paramedic Jay Weber, located the dog, named Kobe, underneath a pier. Using voice commands, the rescue boat was able to lure Kobe to open water and deployed a rescue swimmer FF/EJ Nave. RB35 secured a buoy around the dog and brought him back to the boat. Kobe was then reunited with his owner and received care from the SFFD and his human. He is now home safe and resting with his family. Incident closed!

UPDATE- FIRE CONTAINED Early this morning, shortly after 3:00 AM, San Francisco firefighters responded to a fire at 50 Golden Gate, a six-story multi-residential complex located in the Tenderloin District. The firefighters executed an impressive and aggressive attack on the fire, which originated on the sixth floor, successfully preventing it from spreading to the lower floors and nearby buildings. The fire quickly escalated to a three-alarm incident, affecting the sixth floor, attic, and roof of the building. During the initial response, multiple occupants were rescued, and notably, two cats were saved during the second alarm phase. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Over 100 firefighters, more than 50 fire apparatus, police officers, and additional city services responded to the scene. Firefighters faced challenges due to the building's old construction, which included multiple light wells, lath and plaster construction, and heavy fire conditions on the upper floors. This incident exemplified traditional, aggressive firefighting tactics, which ultimately contained the fire within the structure. Currently, 45 residents have been temporarily displaced and are being accommodated on-site in an SFMTA bus. This number is subject to change. The fire was contained by 5:30 AM, and the American Red Cross has been called in to assist. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and firefighters will remain on the scene for several hours to conduct overhaul operations. We ask that the public continue to avoid the area.

UPDATE #5thfire This four-alarm structure fire, which started at 1:54 this morning, is under control at 4:37 a.m., and no injuries were reported. At this time, 35 people are displaced. The fire is under investigation. The American Red Cross Red Cross Northern California Coastal Region is on scene assisting those affected. 1 alarm fire at Recology San Francisco. SFFD received a 911 dispatch at 1152 AM for a fire in the building and employees directed SFFD members to the metal debris pile within the construction recycling area of Recology. 2-ALARM FIRE San Francisco Firefighters are currently on-scene to a two-alarm structure fire in the 1300 block of 47th Avenue. This active fire is involving three single-family homes. Firefighters have rescued three adults, one of whom is in critical condition. They have also rescued a pet, which is now being cared for by paramedics from the San Francisco Fire Department. Please avoid the area.
