If only we’d built nuclear plants instead of Snowy Hydro 2. Even in the worst case scenario where Bowen compares it to Hinkley C Nuclear Plant that will be an about a 3x cost increase, a lot better than a 12x blowout for a battery. Hinkley C will produce 7% of the UK’s electricity from just 2 reactors for over 60 years. At more realistic CSIRO prices you could have built 5 large nuclear reactors for the up to $50bn price tag of Snowy Hydro 2 (including transmission lines). It’s worth reminding ourselves that the one reactor Australia did build recently, the OPAL research reactor, was basically on time and on budget.

Dr Karl blocked me after I told him that California was not 100% renewables as it had a nuclear plant. He’s now saying all nuclear plants have to be abandoned after 50 years because they become “dangerously radioactive”. There are dozens of reactors 50+ years old. New reactors are designed to last 80+ years. When they do shut down, it’s not because of radiation, and the land doesn’t have to be abandoned. Where does Dr Karl get this information from?

NSW’s Upper House last night voted 21-19 to lift their uranium & nuclear power ban. It’s the first time in recent memory a pro nuclear bill has passed a house of Parliament in Australia. This is a historic first step for lifting the state ban and other bans across the country.

"There's no private investment in nuclear anywhere" says Australia's Assistant Climate/Energy Minister. Its alarming the Assistant Minister isn't aware of the billions being invested by major tech companies including Meta, Microsoft and Google or private utilities around the world. Australia's ideological nuclear bans close the door to private investment. We already have nuclear regulators in Australia, including ANNPSR, that the government just created for the nuclear submarines. The nuclear industry is growing around the world with around 60 countries either adding or exploring adding nuclear to their energy mix. Our politicians aren't informed and are ignoring nuclear at our peril.

David Crissafulli says he's "not about ideology" but won't lift Queensland's ideological nuclear power and uranium mining bans. In my books, he's not better than Chris Bowen. He egregiously compared experimental green hydrogen to proven nuclear energy. There are over 400 reactors worldwide with 78 under construction. Advanced nuclear technology is being deployed now and we'll miss out if we don't act. What is Queensland's plan post coal? Waiting for "bipartisanship" is a copout. Coal and gas don't have bipartisanship either. If he lifted Qld's bans he could help promote it. It's not just nuclear power, there's a uranium policy ban too. Why would we keep this critical clean energy fuel being demanded by countries around the world (including India) sitting under our feet? It's time for Queensland's nuclear bans to go.

“Find me an investor who’s prepared to invest in [nuclear]”? Nothing says we’re open to investment like two federal nuclear prohibitions and state prohibitions across the country. Australia has the most anti nuclear laws in the world. Costs nothing to remove them.

The Amazon Web Services CEO challenged Anthony Albanese for trying to shut down discussion about nuclear’s role in powering AI. “I’m okay. The explosion of AI requires a lot of power so that’s one of the things we’re thinking about.” ✍️Sign to lift the ban:

Once again, nuclear disinformation goes unchecked by Australian media. This claim that nuclear in Australia would cost $600 billion assumed that nuclear costed more than 5x more than even the CSIRO's estimate. The ABC should issue an apology and correction for repeating it once again.

South Australian Labor Premier Peter Malinauskus says "nuclear power has an important role to play globally" yet is uneconomic in Australia. So why not lift the ban to settle the question? Why does it stack up for the 38 countries pledged to triple nuclear by 2050, but just not us?

Today nuclear experts and Nuclear Engineer Grace Stanke visited Parliament House to talk to politicians across the aisle about nuclear power. Despite being invited, the Prime Minister and Energy Minister refused to attend our briefing or a private meeting. It incredibly disappointing that when the experts are in town they are ignored by our leaders.

The Gov is doubling down on nuclear disinformation despite warnings of AI power shortages. According to Minister McBain most reactors were "set up in the 1950s" and "countries are puling out". Currently, 63 reactors are under construction and ≈60 nations are adding nuclear.

53 seconds is all it takes to cut through the myths about nuclear energy. What an awesome new ad in the US 👏

No wonder there aren't any proposals for nuclear to power data centres in Australia. It's illegal. Microsoft, Google and Meta are all investing in nuclear energy to power theirs overseas, yet the government pretends they wouldn't be interested in nuclear here.

Australia's nuclear power ban prevents private companies investing in advanced nuclear technology. Google, Meta and Microsoft are all investing in nuclear overseas to power their data centres, but the government won't allow them to here. The ideological ban makes no sense.

Good luck trying to get more of Australia’s uranium Narendra Modi. Last time India requested Australia’s uranium, Albanese opposed then PM Gillard and spoke against exporting. In 2007, he said on a uranium mining motion “the light on the hill is not the glow of radiation from a nuclear waste dump”. And in the recent nuclear fear campaign he posted that scenic Aussie locations were “under threat” from nuclear power plants. Hopefully our Prime Minister wakes up to the fact Australia is one of the only advanced economies not investing in nuclear soon…
