Jorasanko constituency is in North Kolkata. Mamata Banerjee surprised everyone when she gave ticket to councillor Vijay Upadhyay. Sitting MLA Vivek Gupta was denied the ticket. While waiting for Mamata didi to arrive in this so-called ‘Marwadi’ area of Badabazar heard a soft song in election rally. Didn’t follow Bengali lyrics of it but enjoyed its rhythm.

Swapan Dasgupta is a BJP West Bengal candidate from Rashbehari constituency in Kolkata. Swapan da doesn’t have any typical characteristics of Indian political candidate. He doesn’t wear commonly expected dress of ‘Netaji’, even. He is shy in public. He is self-confessed ‘Brown sahib.’ Speaks softly. Doesn’t shout like most known ‘right-wing’ analysts these days do. But, one can see that he is putting his best foot forward in this election. His wife Reshmi Dasgupta claims, ‘ he enjoys meeting people and engaging with them.’ Since decades, Swapan has written on the rise of Hindutva and Nationalist trends but during election campaigns in his speeches he avoids jingoism needed to attract supporters of BJP West Bengal . The man who once taught at University of Oxford is asking tomorrow votes of bhadralok of Kolkata. Read below his election promises. Few decades back his family owned Calcutta Chemical Company that made famous Margo soap. It was a part of the Swadeshi movement of Bengal in early years of 20th century. Swapan Dasgupta opponent is a strongman of All India Trinamool Congress Debashish Kumar who won last election by the lead of 21400 votes. He is a strong candidate with connect to ground and multiple ‘business’ interests. Swapan enjoys, relatively, clean and softer image if compared to his rival but is that enough? Hearing from my sources that #Fighter is being loved by the IAF. They gave a standing ovation at the Chief’s screening. Bollywood finally gets it right! I am told that Ramon Chibb - one of the producers is an ex-army officer & son of an Airforce officer AND it is his story and screenplay. Ramon Chibb kudos for raising the bar on how our forces need to be shown! #Fighter Kudos to Hrithik Roshan and director Siddharth Anand for giving credit where it is due! What a win for the industry – perfect mix of Bollywood and authentic IAF representation. My air force sources tell me the air action sequences are so real and now I learn that Ramon Chibb guided these. Kudos to all! Seeing this for the first time. No air force/army friend has anything negative to say! Ramon Chibb, ex-fauji and son of an IAF officer, is credited with story, screenplay, producer and 2nd unit director! ( It’s time Bollywood learnt from #FIGHTER success. The IAF buzz is that they love the detailing, the authenticity - you can’t get this right unless you have lived it yourself. A big film commercial director Siddharth Anand and a specialist Ramon Chibb come together to make a winning team.
