This is not OK! IMO the base runner was looking to inflict harm on the catcher. Why he wasn’t immediately ejected by the umpire is beyond me. Here’s a video of me taking BP in the offseason after my Rookie Year with the Texas Rangers in 1992. I had a lot more movement early on in my career and learned to stay back better as I got older. I was a little guy who had to put everything I had into it to drive the ball. I weighed 165 lbs in this video but I could hit the ball hard for my size. I also didn’t realize that my back foot did that until I saw the video. For the record I never once worked on a Scissor Kick and I definitely never used a Farm Board! Coaches have failed in teaching kids how to behave on a baseball field and sadly the MLB is encouraging this behavior! I can only imagine what my roommate Joe Don Dunn would have done to a hitter who flipped his bat and backed into him as he admired it!
