Juneteenth represents the moment when enslaved Black Americans deep in Confederate territory finally learned of their freedom two years after Emancipation Proclamation. I am proud of Oakland’s deep history in the struggle for Black liberation and we are committed to continuing that fight until everyone has a fair shot at a happy, healthy life, regardless of the color of their skin. Today, let’s reflect on the dark history of slavery and racism in our nation, celebrate the work that has been achieved, and recommit ourselves to true liberation.

In anticipation of the first week of school, Oakland Public Works crews have been deployed to do cleanup blitz’s at key school sites. Our young people deserve clean and safe streets and Oakland will continue prioritizing school sites for cleanup. Thank you to our city crews for their hard work!

When we dissolved the VCOC and redeployed our Crime Reduction Teams (CRTs) back into the community, we saw an immediate decline in crime. This is why my mid-cycle budget maintains CRT funding, allowing us to continue improving safety throughout the city and building on the progress we have made so far. #OneOakland #OaklandLoveLife #OaklandCA

Piedmont Avenue is a vibrant shopping district filled with amazing small businesses.
