One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts has reached a new low - even for him! He has described women attempting suicide or self-harm as 'attention seeking' while saying men who do the same are suffering a legitimate medical condition. He made the comments during Senate Estimates. Since ... well forever ... the discussions around suicide and self-harm has centred on men's experience. Women have only been an after thought but that is changing somewhat. Women attempt suicide or self-harm at much higher rates than men but men are more likely to die as a result of their attempts. We do know that 19% of women who suicide do so after experiencing domestic violence while suicide rates among women who are raped or sexually assaulted are also quite staggering. Research is slowly emerging showing how violence itself is a precursor to women ending their own lives or attempting to. And the Federal Government is holding an inquiry into domestic violence related suicide as I write. It's perfectly okay to discuss differing rates of suicides - and their causality - among women and men. But for someone in a position of influence and power to say women are attention seeking when they suicide or self-harm is grotesque. *** ❤️SUPPORT MY WORK❤️ Please support my work and the Memorial to Women and Children Lost to Violence and Australian Femicide Watch. Never forget! Peter Dutton ordered his thugs to smash into the home of Priya Nadesalingam, her husband Nades Murugappan, and their daughters Kopika and Tharnicaa at 5am. The scared family had 10 minutes to pack the basics before they ripped out of Biloela. They were locked up, ill-treated and denied basic nutrition and health care for three years. Imagine the harm he will cause as Prime Minister. Vote like a child's life depends on it. #auspol

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says there’s no reason for Australia to have a Royal Commission into the Killing of Women and Girls because it is a waste of money. When two men massacred Jewish people at Bondi Beach last year, Albanese did not say ‘There’s calls for a Royal Commission into everything’. He said quite the opposite, saying he listened to Jewish leaders and families and supported their calls. “There’s calls for a Royal Commission into everything,” he told @christiehayes_ this morning on Hit 1009 Hobart. “What does a royal commission do besides fund lawyers? My petition for a Royal Commission into Femicide has more than 91,000 signatures. Many of those are from families who have lost a girl or woman to violence. Many are from frontline violence support workers. Many are from community members impacted by male violence. This is not about ‘wasting money on lawyers’ as the PM claimed. It’s about having a national truth-telling into the one thing that impacts almost every woman and girl in Australia - MALE VIOLENCE. We make up 51% of the population. We’ve been murdered, raped, abused, stalked, harassed and demeaned for as long as we have existed. Women deserve to have a national light shone on the violence we endure. We deserve to examine the failures before and after the deaths of the 10s of thousands of women and girls killed in this country. Families deserve to tell their stories. Professionals deserve to explain how the safety nets are failing women. We just want the same care and compassion afforded us as other Australians have had afforded them. WOMEN MATTER! You can help me get a Royal Commission into the Killing of Women and Girls by signing the petition using the link in my bio or by visiting ❤️SUPPORT MY WORK❤️ Please support The RED HEART Movement and Australian Femicide Watch by grabbing a RED HEART tee or providing a crowd-funded donation! 100% of money raised funds support for families of femicide, an apartment for domestic violence survivors and my work documenting the killing of Australian women and children. ❤️HER NAME IS VIRGINIA GIUFFRE! ❤️ This photo was taken 24 years ago. It is an iconic image. On Friday, the young woman in the image died by suicide. Her name is Virginia Guiffre. She was a fierce warrior for those of us who survived rape or sexual assault - and for those who could never overcome the pain of this trauma. Virginia was raped and trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein. She was a teenager when Epstein and his co-accused Ghislaine Maxwell kept Virginia ‘on call for sexual purposes’, 'lending' her to powerful men. One being Prince Andrew. “This is not some sordid sex story. This is a story of being trafficked. This is a story of abuse and this is a story of your guys’ royalty,” she told BBC Panorama in 2019. Three years after that interview - in 2022 - Virginia settled a civil case against the prince. He never went to trial. The prince continually denied it but Virginia said: “He knows what happened. I know what happened. And there’s only one of us telling the truth." The link between suicide, self-harm and sexual violence is rarely talked about - and yet thousands of women experience this daily in Australia. One-third of women who survive rape and/or sexual assault contemplate suicide while 13% will try to end their own lives. Virginia spent many years advocating for - and championing - victims of sexual violence. ‘Her courage pushed me to fight harder, and her strength was awe-inspiring," lawyer Sigrid McCawley said. Virginia lived on a farm in Western Australia and was mum to three children. ‘Despite all the adversity she faced in her life, she shone so bright. She will be missed beyond measure,' her family said in a statement. VIRGINIA GIUFFRE MATTERS!❤️ **** ❤️ Please support my work❤️ I need your support so I can keep telling stories like Virginia's and continue documenting murdered women and children.
