Dee Salmin - the broadcaster and author - will boycott the Brownlow Medal this year after multiple women said they were sexually assaulted while in the presence of five Sydney Swans players. Dee is also the partner of a footballer. She has taken a stance in defence of women and sexual assault survivors. Cue Sam Newman - a washed-up has-been who tries to stay relevant by smashing out commentary that's misogynist and unpalatable. In response to Dee's decision he released a little rant on his podcast, saying: "Keep your little frock, get your little hairstyle and take it to somewhere else. And don't go to the fucking Brownlow." Dee's decision is the right one and - as we always see - the sexist men are out in droves to cut her down. Newman's response, indeed all the negative responses, just proves how far we are from men actually understanding how bad the culture is within the AFL and other sporting organisations. Here is Dee's statement: "I've spent the past few weeks thinking about the important conversations we’re having about women and the culture surrounding AFL, and I’ve realised I can’t keep encouraging other people to interrogate the systems they participate in, without being willing to interrogate them myself. "I haven’t made this decision thinking my absence will be noticed, or a big deal, but as someone who believes in leading with your values, I just don’t feel comfortable being at an event that doesn’t align with mine. "f course, there are people within the sport who I love and respect (my partner being one of them), but that doesn’t mean the entire culture is above criticism. I think when it comes to the AFL’s attitude towards women and gender-based violence, there needs to be some serious change."

A short video appearing to show a man wearing Meta glasses filming missing Australian woman Sally Grace Contarino has appeared on Instagram. The video is dated June 17 - three days before 26-year-old Sally last spoke to her family. She failed to board a bus to California and and flight from the United States to Australia. She was last seen in Las Vegas. Football commentator and media dude Sam Newman just claimed the woman raped by sports manager Ralph Carr had 'buyer's remorse' and he questioned the evidence of the rapist's crimes. She was patting a baby goat. She was having her face painted. She was eating lollies. She was laughing with her sister. Little Matilda was ... existing. Shortly after this photo was taken a man ended her life. I cannot look at Matilda's final photo without crying. We've lost 26 children to violence this year. As I write, we've lost 64 women to violence this year. I know four times more men have been killed. Matilda's murder has hit me harder than all of the others - not because she is more important, or more innocent, or more fragile, or more cherished. It has hit harder because this little girl - only 10 years old - was patting a baby goat and smiling like it was the happiest moment she'd ever known. How could a man raise a rifle, point it at a little girl in a yellow dress, look down the barrel and squeeze that trigger? Even though I've seen every kind of violence, I will never be able to find an answer to that question. I try to avoid platforming Kyle Sandilands for obvious reasons but this was too appalling to not share. Tyler is a guy who appeared on a show called First Dates Australia. He did an interview with Mary Madigan and Sandilands last week, telling them he would never date a traditional woman, his partners are not to have jobs or their own bank accounts and they are not allowed to go out with their mates to the pub. The Whyalla Football League held it's annual awards night for male footballers recently. The host - who I have not been able to identify - made some terrible comments about the sexual assault connected to multiple Sydney Swans players. He suggested football coaches who had teams that were not performing well could 'manufacture a scandal' like the Sydney Swans sex assault in order to motivate their teams into playing better. He said he expected the Swans to lose a game after five players were banned but the other players stepped up and won. The crowd at the awards night laughed along with him. There was no attempt to shut down the conversation by the organisers. The host also made a disparaging comment about gender non-binary people. Whyalla has not responded to the remarks and the video remains on the club's Facebook page.

Women and children are sleeping in tents and cars across Australia after violent men forced them out of their homes and left them with no money. So Pauline Hanson has decided to spend donated money on more 'important' things like petty little billboards. Hanson raised more than $2 million to spend on this petty name-calling campaign. She’s literally wasting money while being part of a government that consistently fails to provide enough funding to house homeless Australians. These billboards can cost more than $3000 per day. Over one year, that adds up to about $1.068m. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says there’s no reason for Australia to have a Royal Commission into the Killing of Women and Girls because it is a waste of money. When two men massacred Jewish people at Bondi Beach last year, Albanese did not say ‘There’s calls for a Royal Commission into everything’. He said quite the opposite, saying he listened to Jewish leaders and families and supported their calls. “There’s calls for a Royal Commission into everything,” he told @christiehayes_ this morning on Hit 1009 Hobart. “What does a royal commission do besides fund lawyers? My petition for a Royal Commission into Femicide has more than 91,000 signatures. Many of those are from families who have lost a girl or woman to violence. It’s about having a national truth-telling into the one thing that impacts almost every woman and girl in Australia - MALE VIOLENCE. We make up 51% of the population. We’ve been murdered, raped, abused, stalked, harassed and demeaned for as long as we have existed. Women deserve to have a national light shone on the violence we endure. We deserve to examine the failures before and after the deaths of the 10s of thousands of women and girls killed in this country. Families deserve to tell their stories. Professionals deserve to explain how the safety nets are failing women. We just want the same care and compassion afforded us as other Australians have had afforded them. WOMEN MATTER! Notice the words for most of the men are positive and strong. He could have labeled Donald Trump a rapist, racist, sexist, tyrannical megalomaniac ... but here we fucking are.
