I sat down this whole weekend to read the two speeches delivered by the VP and his superior, the President. Are you guys sure these speeches were not written by one person? Because look, the VP came as an opener to the President’s speech. His address preceded the principal address. So, as an opener, what exactly was he supposed to do? I think an opener sets the stage for the main act. The VP spoke before the President. His address opened the proceedings for the principal address that followed. In any structured presentation, an opening speech should raise issues, raise questions, establish central themes and prepare the audience for the explanations that follow in the main address. An opener sets the stage; the main act develops the message. Consider this: if I were writing both speeches, I would deliberately use the VP’s address to pose questions about the Party’s past mistakes, its present challenges and the discipline required to secure its future. I would then use the President’s address to provide the explanations, reinforce the Party’s direction and establish the way forward. That is a question-and-explanation structure, not necessarily a contradiction. And no, I am not talking about a conventional question-and-answer sequence. I am talking about a question-and-explainer format, where the first speech raises a substantive question and the second develops the explanation. For instance, I would ask: “Are we not in danger of returning to the very things that once made us fall apart?” My main explanation (President's speech) would then be: “No. We have learnt from our past, we are more united, we are stronger than before, and we remain committed to preserving the unity of our revolutionary party.” Now, imagine reading the two speeches through that lens instead of approaching them with the preconceived conclusion that there MUST be a fight in the Presidium. The mere fact that two leaders addressed similar aspects of an issue and were good with each other, even smiling after the event should have told you something. Where did Munhumutapa Day come from and Why? I see ana Fulcrum naana Hopewell vachiita kutota nenyaya yeMunhumutapa Day as if it is a new concept to them. They are now desperately claiming the President is crowning himself King and setting up a dynasty. First off, stop being ignorant guys, our Constitution has zero provision for a monarchy. Secondly, and most importantly, the President is a direct descendant of the great Munhumutapa lineage, and calling him that is simply honoring his heritage. Let me just educate you on where Munhumutapa Day comes from and why it is important for us as a country: As VP Cde. CGDN Chiwenga clearly laid out a while ago in 2021, Zimbabwe has only ONE MUNHUMUTAPA which is plain Shona for THE LEADER. It is our indigenous term for the head of state and has nothing to do with establishing a "kingdom." The President is our Mutapa/Leader, whether your bitterness allows you to accept it or not. On 15 September which is our Leader's birthday, the ZANU PF Youth League, led by Cde John Paradza, established Munhumutapa Day to celebrate his monumental work. Look around you, from the massive infrastructure overhauls to economic modernisations, the transformation post-2017 is too visible to ignore. Today we have decided to make this a holiday because the majority of the country have accepted and agreed that we should celebrate this day as a whole country. As our tradition dictates, isusu sevanhu vanobva kunevanhu tinokudza vanhu vakuru vachiri vapenyu. Toda kupa baba vedu maruva avo vachiri vapenyu!
