Alysa Liu: Beijing was a really good memory. I did not take it seriously at all. Interviewer: It's the Olympics, how do you not take it seriously? Alysa Liu: Well... I made it there already; that was my goal. My dream wasn't to do like... I mean, I wanted to do good programs, and I did do good programs. But I was like, "This is it. Now nothing can affect my mood like, I was already so happy." Not even the competition could affect me. The competition couldn't bring me down. Nothing could. I'm just happy to be there and so really trying to live it up. At that point, this was my last competition, so I'm honestly very excited for taking my last and for such a big one.

Alysa Liu when asked about competing and feeling pressure before the Olympics: “Singers perform all the time but they don’t get scored, you know? That’s how I view competitions. I can’t bring myself to see other skaters as competition. We’re just all independent artists.”

"How can I change my mindset and be more positive about things?" Not even 'positive,' because, honestly, in life I also love sadness. I love anger. I love to feel all of that." I don’t think the pinnacle of life’s goal is happiness, actually. Maybe just more peaceful thinking. — Alysa Liu

Winning isn’t all that and neither is losing. It’s just something that happens. It’s the outcome. What really matters is the effort you put in and the journey you go through. I would say: Take a break if you’ve been stuck in something for too long. That’s actually why I stepped away for a while. I literally retired, and it was the best thing I could have done for myself. Through that retirement, I realized that I’m a bit of a creative person. I have ideas, my own sense of fashion, and I can be a little stubborn about it. So I came back to share all of my art. I love choreography and moving to music. I love to dance, and I do it on my own terms, no one tells me what to do. Even now, I still take breaks. And I think that’s the best way to do it. — Alysa Liu.

I love this so much, because in this life-it’s truly what it’s ALL about. Humans striving to be the very best version of themselves, and rejoicing in each-others accomplishments, even if they’re not golden. If we don’t self sabotage, the joy generated by this state of mind, naturally fuels our will to be better tomorrow than we were yesterday, and the world need more of this in my humble opinion…
