45 years ago today, Simple Minds released their third studio album 'Empires and Dance'.

In April 1982, Simple Minds released ‘Promised You a Miracle’ while still touring Sons and Fascination, issuing it ahead of their next album, New Gold Dream. The single became the band’s first UK hit and led to their debut appearance on Top of the Pops.

On this day in 1985, Simple Minds performed at the iconic Live Aid Concert. The band took to the stage at the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, USA, performing in front of 100,000 people.

“I wrote ‘Changeling’ on the guitar: a picking riff at the front, and a sequence heavily influenced by the Rolling Stones in the verses. That was almost a proper song, and it became quite popular in the incipient New Romantic clubs in London." - Charlie
