Ben Hur (1959) was shot in Rome and employed 50,000 Italian actors and extras, including this party scene featuring some of Rome's 1950s high society. It was the most expensive film made as of 1959, with a budget adjusted for inflation of $165 million ($15.2 at the time). Nolan's budget for the Odyssey is $250 million, some of that from Greece itself. Apparently no Greeks.

Rome (2005) was also shot in Rome, same studio as Ben Hur. They employed Italian actors in major roles as well as extras in the crowd scenes. The production team repeatedly stressed this point in interviews, the steps they took to make their Rome a more authentic Rome. The entire crowd, save a few major actors and gladiators in this scene, are Italians. But Christopher Nolan didn't cast any Greeks in The Odyssey.

Still one of the worst cases I've ever heard of. 20 year old Mahogany Jackson of Birmingham, AL. was kidnapped, tortured, beaten and s*xually assaulted before being sh*t by her tormentors. 8 of them, including a few women. She was moved from one location to another, at one point even getting a message to her mother begging her to send help. Her captors recorded and posted her torture online. They're seeking the death penalty for at least 5 of the perpetrators.

Did you know that Dearborn public schools switched to 100% "halal" meat back in 2019? 100%. There are no normal meat options for non Muslim students. Only meat that's been slaughtered in an Islamic ritual with the animals facing Mecca and Islamic prayers said over them. They actually cited cost issues, claiming the normal meat was potentially contaminating the Islamic/"halal" meat. That their meat was cleaner and healthier anyway. We even discuss the issue using their terms! It's Islamic slaughtered meat, not "halal", which is an Arabic term meaning "permissible." To us? It's just Islamic slaughtered meat. This is the creeping sharia so many warned about for years, now put into practice in a public school without so much as a lawsuit or even much national discussion. No immediate lawsuit by the ACLU or the other nonprofits that spent decades chasing Christianity out of the schools and the public square, no one crying about separation of church and state, merely some comments praising diversity and having "more ethnic options" for students. Another case that doesn't fit the narrative and keeps flying under the radar, the Indian Creek Serial Killer: Fredrick Demond Scott, who previously expressed a desire to "k*** all white people," murdered 6 white people near a popular walking trail in the Kansas City Metro between 2016 and his arrest in 2017. 5 of the victims were white makes, some were walking their dogs when attacked. The 6th victim was a white homeless woman who is thought to have appeared male to Scott due to her clothing. The trial has been held up for almost a decade, families denied justice (see video, it's heartbreaking) because of competency hearings and the Byzantine intersections of justice and mental healthcare in Missouri, only recently cleared to proceed later this year. Same script as Iryna Zarutska's killer. Scott is repeatedly declared incompetent to stand trial, but is actively expressing racial hatred against white people, hatred he acted on.

This may be one of the most satisfying sentencing videos I've seen in a long time: Dr. Oumair Aejaz was turned in by his own wife after she discovered explicit recordings on his phone. Turns out he actually had over 13k illicit videos he'd amassed over 6 years, including hidden camera video of his patients, some of whom he'd assaulted, and even his own family. This upset a few people convinced I had the history wrong or was trying to impose an "Islamophobic" viewpoint on Mozart's work. I'll repeat, in 1782 Mozart premiered an opera about the Muslim abduction enslavement of Christian Europeans, and did so within 100 years of the siege and battle of Vienna by the Ottoman Turks. At a time when the Islamic Barbary pirates were still a threat on the high seas. Here's the context for the aria Martern aller Arten (tortures of every kind) which I edited for length. I assure you, I imposed nothing either on Mozart or the true history behind the opera:

This is Advait Deshmukh, a urology resident in Toledo, Ohio, recently sentenced to a mere 6 months in jail for secretly recording women in his hospital's bathroom. In 2025, hospital employees found a box containing a cell phone in the facility's unisex bathroom. When they tried to remove it, Deshmukh grabbed it and said it was his. The device contained 82 photos of 6 known female victims along with evidence that he may have secretly recorded some women as early as 2018. Deshmukh was sentenced to 6 months in jail, 3 years probation, 15 years on the sex offender registry, and to mental health counseling for 7 counts of voyeurism and 1 count of tampering with evidence.
