Contractor Christopher Duffy Detained Briefly while Seeking to Question Taoiseach at Tullamore Show Christopher Duffy, a contractor from Castletown, Co. Meath, and one of the principal organisers of the fuel demonstrations earlier this year, was in attendance at the Tullamore Show today and sought to put a question to Taoiseach Micheál Martin regarding fuel price increases. Duffy has consistently campaigned for the removal of the carbon tax and measures to keep fuel prices lower at the pump for Irish citizens. Throughout the day he was seen with fellow principal fuel demonstrators James Geoghegan and John Dallon. Numerous attendees approached the three men for photographs and to offer kind words in recognition of their efforts seeking reduced fuel prices. In footage from the event, Mr Duffy is seen approaching calmly and asking his question. He was then quickly surrounded by members of An Garda Síochána and the Gardaí ministerial security detail, who pushed him back. One officer physically grabbed his arm as he attempted to leave and restrained him. Mr Duffy can be heard stating that he simply wanted to ask an elected representative a question and that there had been no signs on the way in indicating questions were not permitted. He then asked: “Am I under arrest?” to which an officer replied: “You are being detained.” The situation eventually de-escalated without further incident.

Tensions Flare at Dublin Fuel Protest as PBP TD Paul Murphy is Chased Away Frustration boiled over on O’Connell Bridge around 3pm today during nationwide fuel price protests, as People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy was chased away by sections of the crowd. Video from SnDmedia shows Murphy surrounded by angry protesters amid the chaos, with palpable anger directed at the left-wing politician despite shared cost-of-living concerns. The demonstrations, involving convoys of tractors and lorries, have disrupted traffic across Ireland over rising fuel costs linked to global events. Protesters demand government action on excise duties and taxes. The incident highlights raw tensions on the ground as economic pressures mount. No injuries reported. Gardaí are monitoring the ongoing protests.

Heated Exchange with Gardaí at Tullamore Show as Farmer Confronts Ministers Over Rural Policy Concerns A tense confrontation unfolded at the Tullamore Show today when farmer James Conway publicly challenged government ministers who declined to answer his questions on a range of issues he argues are harming rural Ireland. Mr Conway, who organises a monthly Homesteaders Hoolie on his farm and hosts a podcast with Silent Majority Media, had signalled the previous day that he planned to ring a bell and press ministers for accountability. His frustration was evident as ministers refused to engage. In this clip circulating from the event, Conways bell can be heard ringing and can be heard addressing members of An Garda Síochána with the remarks: “It’s all about the farmers today, no young lads to drag out of a tractor,” and “it’s a grand hat, better than yours, at least I didn’t have to bate anyone to get it.” The comments referenced the historical fuel demonstrations in April, which Conway characterised as involving peaceful protesters who were beaten and pepper-sprayed by gardaí. The incident occurred against the backdrop of the large agricultural show, which drew substantial crowds and featured political attendees including Irelands Prime Minister Michael Martin and agricultural Minister Martin Heydon. Conway has positioned himself as a vocal critic of policies he believes are undermining farming communities and rural life. No official response from the ministers or An Garda Síochána to the specific exchange was immediately available.

Breaking New Footage: Woman Screams 'Bomb Strapped to Me' at Kids' Confirmation in Packed Navan Church Teachers and clergy at St Mary's Church in Navan, Co. Meath, have been widely commended for their composure and quick thinking after a woman interrupted a Confirmation ceremony by claiming she had a bomb strapped to her body. The incident took place on Saturday, during a packed service at the central church on Fairgreen/Trimgate Street. Hundreds of sixth-class students from four local schools, along with their parents and sponsors, were present as they prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop of Meath Tom Deenihan. The woman approached the altar, accessed the microphone, held her jacket closed, and announced she had something to say before declaring she had a bomb. Priests and teachers responded swiftly and calmly, escorting her away from the altar and out of the church without any escalation or widespread panic. Many attendees did not clearly hear her exact words due to the commotion, and reactions varied: some children appeared frightened, while others only learned of the claim afterward from friends. Parents praised the handling of the situation, noting that the calm intervention by clergy and educators prevented further distress among the young congregation. Alarming released footage from our source shows the tense moment the woman was being escorted out, highlighting the potential danger in such a crowded setting with children present. Church representatives have declined to comment on the matter. Gardaí confirmed they attended a report of a public order incident at the location around 1 p.m. that day. A woman in her 40s was arrested on site, has since been charged, and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, no additional details are being released.

Exclusive: Fuel Demonstration Trio Draw Line Under Speculation at Athlone Agri Meeting Principal spokespeople for the April fuel demonstrations – James Geoghan, John Dallon and Christopher Duffy – sat down with reporters last night on the sidelines of the Independent Ireland public meeting on the live animal export crisis at Athlone Springs Hotel. The three confirmed they had attended the gathering, which focused on the implications of Brittany Ferries’ proposed stoppage of live animal exports and the steps needed to protect farmers, cattle exporters and agricultural businesses. Addressing online speculation that a further fuel protest had been called for the end of the month, Geoghan, Dallon and Duffy stated clearly that no such action has been officially announced. They emphasised they are allowing the government time to reflect on its decisions before any further steps are considered. In this short clip below the trio outline emphatically that no large-scale mobilisation has been officially called yet. Their full position and feedback is due for release later today.

Gardaí Step in as Cowen Faces Heated Debate with Duffy, Dallon and Pepper on Left-Wing Influence at Agri Show A heated exchange unfolded at the Tullamore Agricultural Show yesterday when Dublin City councillor Gavin Pepper confronted Fianna Fáil MEP Barry Cowen over Ireland’s relationship with US President Donald Trump. Pepper, an Independent councillor, questioned the Midlands-North West MEP on the state of bilateral relations and argued that left-wing politicians in Ireland are damaging the traditionally strong partnership with the United States. The short clip of the exchange shows Pepper pressing Cowen on the issue amid the busy agricultural event, which drew more than 70,000 visitors to mark its 35th year. The full interview featuring Cowen is due for release later today. It will also include questions put to the MEP by Christopher Duffy and John Dallon, two prominent figures from the April fuel demonstrations. While Cowen did take the time to respond to the questions, the exchanges intensified as they progressed. Cowen eventually retreating as Dallon, Duffy and Pepper continued to press with Gardaí intervening to help shut the conversation down and block them In stark contrast, Taoiseach Micheál Martin avoided all questions from the public. Gardaí and security personnel physically restrained Christopher Duffy when he approached to raise fuel-price concerns, grabbing his arm and briefly detaining him, while others seeking to speak to the Taoiseach were blocked.

Duffy Shakes Dáil with Rallying Cry: “The Ball Is in the Government’s Court” Amid RIP Ireland Coffin Procession and Growing Solidarity As fuel price protests continue their fourth day with growing support across Ireland, agricultural contractor Christopher Duffy issued a stirring rallying cry at the foot of the Daniel O Connell statue, vowing that ordinary citizens would not back down until the government delivered meaningful relief on crippling diesel and petrol costs. The grassroots movement, coordinated through WhatsApp groups and the "Irish People Against Fuel Prices" Facebook page, has united farmers, hauliers, construction workers, small businesses and everyday drivers fed up with soaring fuel prices exacerbated by carbon taxes and global pressures. Protests have spread far beyond Dublin, with convoys blocking motorways, fuel depots and key routes in cities and towns including Limerick, Galway, Cork, Sligo and beyond, drawing widespread public solidarity. Speaking at the protest site on O'Connell Street, Duffy , one of four key spokespeople alongside John Dallon, James Geoghegan and Sean McNamara, slammed the government's initial reluctance to engage. "We sent requests on fuel costs and wanted a meeting; they refused even a response," he said. He stressed that the ball is now firmly in the government's court: "The protest will not move until the peoples requests are met, it’s the Government that has closed Dublin! "In a poignant symbolic gesture highlighting the nation's struggles, demonstrators carried a coffin marked "RIP Ireland" through the demonstration, representing the dire economic pressures facing rural and working Ireland. A moment of collective silence observed by protesters near the Dáil added solemn weight to their peaceful call for justice. Support for the protests continues to swell nationwide, with rolling convoys, tractor blockades and public displays of solidarity, including flag-waving onlookers on bridges and roadsides, reported across the country. From Portlaoise, where the movement gained early momentum, to disruptions at fuel depots and motorways, ordinary Irish people are standing together against policies that threaten livelihoods. Duffy and fellow organisers are calling for urgent action: lower fuel taxes, a freeze on carbon tax, price caps and a genuine response to the cost-of-living crisis. As a government meeting with representative bodies is ongoing today, protester representatives are on standby awaiting the outcome. This homegrown movement, born from real economic pain rather than external influence, reflects the frustration of hard-working families and businesses pushed to the brink. With public backing growing stronger by the day, the message from the streets is clear and resolute: the people of Ireland demand relief, and they will sustain peaceful pressure until real solutions are delivered. The coming hours could mark a turning point, but the resolve of protesters like Duffy shows no sign of wavering.

Eva Vlaardingerbroek Delivers Historic Call to Save Europe- “Remigration Is the Hill We Die On” In a powerful and unapologetic 17-minute address at CPAC Hungary, Dutch commentator Eva Vlaardingerbroek issued a clarion call that is already galvanizing conservatives across the continent: Europe faces existential replacement through mass migration, and the only path forward is remigration. The 29-year-old activist, speaking on March 21, hailed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as the last major European leader standing firm against the demographic tide. She rejected the notion that European identity can be reduced to a passport or shared “values.” “Being European is not something that comes with a passport,” she declared. “We are bound through history, culture, our faith in Christ, and ethnicity. Yes, also ethnicity. Europe has always been a white continent, we cannot pretend otherwise.” Vlaardingerbroek brought the human cost into sharp focus, recounting the brutal murders of young Europeans at the hands of migrants: Dutch teenager Lisa, stabbed 12 times in the throat by a Nigerian; French teen Theo, stabbed in the heart over a phone bill by a Senegalese man; 14-year-old Austrian Alex, killed by Syrian migrants who reportedly smiled and invoked Allah.“These boys and girls were betrayed by their own governments… stabbed by immigrants… and then stabbed in the back once again by legal systems that too often let the murderers walk free,” she said, her voice carrying the weight of righteous anger. She then named the reality plainly: “White populations are being murdered at random in the public space. We’re being replaced, ridiculed, demonized… What do you call that? Exactly genocide.” The audience erupted in sustained applause as she added, “It is time we acknowledge that if nothing changes, that’s exactly where we’re heading.”Vlaardingerbroek’s solution was unequivocal and uncompromising: remigration must become the defining issue for every right-wing party in Europe. “The number one issue… is remigration. There is nothing, and I repeat, nothing more important than that. That is a hill I am willing to die on, and so should you.”She closed with an electrifying summons to action: “My fellow Europeans… Rise up! The French, get up! Italians, the Germans, the Dutch… Stand up! … Through remigration we can reclaim our home and save Europe.”A former law student, and voice of the Dutch farmer protests, Vlaardingerbroek has emerged as a leading figure in what she calls “Generation Remigration.” Her speech has spread like wildfire online, resonating deeply with patriots who see in her words the courage long missing from conservative discourse. At a moment when Europe stands at the precipice, Eva Vlaardingerbroek has drawn the line clearly: remigration or replacement. The battle for the soul of the continent has begun.

Ireland's Quiet Clearance: 16,500 Ukrainians Booted from State Housing Just Weeks Before the EU Migration Pact As barrister Tracey O'Mahony asked on X: Did you know the EU Migration Pact goes fully operational in three weeks? From June 12, Brussels will dictate how many economic migrants and asylum seekers Ireland must process and accommodate under its new "solidarity" rules. The timing is damning. While the nation focuses on the looming EU directive, the Irish government is quietly phasing out accommodation for around 16,500 Ukrainian refugees. Announced in late April, hotels, B&Bs, and emergency housing used since 2022 will wind down from August. Those who arrived before March 2024 get three months' notice before facing Ireland’s strained private rental market. This is no mere administrative tweak. It’s a deliberate clearance of capacity. Why evict genuine war refugees, many working, paying taxes, and integrating, right before the Pact’s full rollout? The answer is cynical but predictable. The government is freeing beds, hotels, and housing not for Irish families on waiting lists or the homeless, but to absorb the expected surge of asylum seekers and migrants under the Pact. Ireland opted in with no opt-out. The mandatory solidarity mechanism requires Dublin to accept its quota or pay penalties to Brussels. The numbers are coming, and they won’t be Ukrainians. It’s a stark inversion of priorities. In 2022, Ireland welcomed over 100,000 Ukrainians, commandeering hotels at costs peaking at €30 million weekly. Now, the same system views their continued stay as inconvenient. Meanwhile, the asylum system strains under tens of thousands of applicants from safe third countries arriving via irregular routes. Ireland faces one of Europe’s worst housing crises. Citizens and tourists struggle for accommodation, yet hundreds of millions have been spent housing non-Irish nationals. With the Pact’s border procedures, screening centres, and quotas imminent, space is needed. So Ukrainians, who fled real war, receive eviction notices, while new arrivals get priority. This is certainly premeditated. Politicians who supported the Pact knew the timelines and quotas. Instead of pushing back on Brussels, they’re displacing refugees who came in good faith under temporary protection. Tracey O’Mahony is right to raise the alarm. In weeks, the EU will enforce its rules. Ireland’s government is clearing decks for the influx at the expense of those already here. The Irish people deserve straight answers: How many more will the Pact force us to accept? At what cost to our own citizens? And why are Ukrainians being moved aside? As one commentator eloquently put it in reference to the recent high-profile death of Congolese man Yves Sakila: “We don't need more Yves and thieves, we need a major migrant reprieve.” The accommodation isn’t being freed for efficiency. It’s being cleared for the next wave and the government knows exactly the clientele that's coming to replace them.

Dawn of Disruption: Nationwide Fuel Protest Convoy Set to Paralyse Dublin Traffic in 'Peaceful but Massive Demonstration' Motorists across Ireland are being warned of significant delays in and around Dublin on Tuesday as thousands of hauliers, farmers, construction workers and support vehicles converge on the capital in a nationwide fuel-price protest. Organisers have released an updated convoy plan calling for a coordinated, peaceful demonstration starting at dawn, of which details at the end of this report. The running order will place recovery trucks at the front, followed by hauliers, buses, farmers, construction vehicles, vans and rear breakdown support. Christopher Duffy, a leading voice for the protest movement, told SnD Media the action is a last resort: “Businesses are to the wall and are going to go out of business. People are really struggling now and it’s just not feasible to survive.” The core demand is to cut fuel prices to €1 per litre for green diesel and €1.70 for white. We spoke with Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín this evening who described the protests as “organic” and accused the government of “taxing the people out of business and leaving them in a situation where they cannot put food on the table.” He added: “Fuel is not a luxury and should stop being taxed as such. The government must sit down and sort this out.” Motorists have been urged to plan alternative routes or delay non-essential travel completely tomorrow especially into Dublin. Organisers say the protest will remain peaceful and unfortunately static at times due to the shear volume of vehicles involved across the country.

Fuel Demonstration Fugure John Dallon Speaks Out After Attempts to Question Taoiseach at Tullamore Show Blocked At the Tullamore Show on Sunday, principal organisers from the earlier fuel demonstrations made repeated efforts to put questions to Taoiseach Micheál Martin about fuel and related policies they say are harming ordinary people and rural Ireland. The popular one-day agricultural and livestock event at Butterfield Estate drew more than 70,000 visitors for its 35th anniversary, featuring livestock competitions, trade stands, demonstrations and family attractions. Taoiseach Micheál Martin attended and opened the show, describing it as a showcase of rural life and food production. Among those present were key figures from the April fuel protests, including contractors and farmers Christopher Duffy, James Geoghegan and John Dallon. The three were approached by many attendees for photos and supportive comments over their earlier campaign for lower fuel prices, the removal of carbon tax and other measures to ease costs at the pump. Duffy, a contractor from Castletown, Co. Meath, approached Martin calmly to ask about fuel price increases. He was quickly surrounded by Gardaí and the ministerial security detail, who pushed him back; one officer grabbed his arm and briefly detained. Duffy stated he simply wanted to question an elected representative and noted there were no signs prohibiting questions. When he asked if he was under arrest, an officer replied that he was being detained. The situation de-escalated without further incident. SnD Media caught up with John Dallon at the show. The Kildare farmer and agricultural contractor, a prominent voice during the spring demonstrations, said the Irish people must be put first. He warned that people are being let starve and run into financial difficulty by a government that has taxed them to the hilt, and that they cannot take any more of it. “The people have no choice but to go back out on the road again,” Dallon continued. He reiterated that government policies on fuel costs, taxation and related rural pressures continue to squeeze farmers, hauliers, contractors and ordinary families, and that genuine engagement is needed rather than temporary supports that later lapse. The encounters underscored a complete lack of government accountability, the ongoing frustration among many rural and working people over rising fuel and cost-of-living pressures.

A Smile Worth More Than Any Title: Katie Taylor Hands a Young Fan Her Gloves Before Croke Park Farewell Ten-year-old Clodagh Keating from Coolock was fighting back tears of joy after being lifted into the ring to meet Katie Taylor during an open workout at The Helix in Dublin. The youngster, a devoted fan of the boxing great, was shown some techniques and even given Taylor’s gloves, a moment she said she had dreamed of for years. “It felt so amazing,” Clodagh told reporters afterwards. “I couldn’t believe when someone just lifted me over and said you’re going to go and meet Katie. I’ve always wanted to meet her for so long and it just made me so upset that I went into the ring and she gave me her gloves as well… it’s just so sweet that I got picked out.” Taylor said the look on Clodagh’s face, and the sight of so many other young girls in the crowd, meant more than any world championship. “That’s the greatest part, to see so many little girls here and imagining all the thousands of stories of those little girls in the stadium on Saturday night who might be at a boxing event for the very first time,” she said. “I’m hoping that these little girls actually fall in love with this beautiful sport and surpass anything that I’ve ever achieved. "Just looking at Clodagh’s little face, the smile on her face, that’s worth more than any of these titles." On Saturday night, that same champion walks out one last time at Croke Park. Taylor faces unbeaten French challenger Flora Pili in a sold-out farewell billed as the first professional boxing event at the stadium since Muhammad Ali fought there in 1972. Around 80,000 fans are expected as she defends her WBA, IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine super-lightweight titles and fights for the vacant WBC belt, with a chance to retire as a three-time undisputed world champion. For a fighter who helped put women’s boxing on the Olympic programme, won gold in London in 2012, and then ruled two professional divisions, it is the homecoming she always called the perfect ending, a national occasion meant to leave the next generation, girls like Clodagh, believing they belong in the ring too.

“This Land Is Soaked in the Blood of Our Ancestors”: Barrister Tracey O’Mahony Dismantles White-Privilege Lecture Was this Ireland’s own Joan of Arc moment? It began on 21 August with a nearly three-minute video: “Dr Ebun Joseph – Anti-Racism Advisor to the Irish Government but who is she?” O’Mahony set out a plain timeline. Joseph arrived from Nigeria in April 2002 while heavily pregnant and gave birth a month later, in the years when some Nigerian women travelled to Ireland for birthright citizenship. She started as a care worker in 2007, moved into career guidance, rebranded as a diversity consultant in 2015, published on “whiteness and racism” in 2017, and by 2018 was lecturing in Black Studies and Critical Race Theory at UCD. In 2024 the government made her official adviser. In her first annual report as Special Rapporteur on Racism she warned that racism is rampant and recommended mandatory anti-racism training for the civil and public service, plus compulsory anti-racism education in schools. She also founded and runs the Institute of Antiracism and Black Studies, which sells that exact training. The question now is blunt: is a state post being used to drum up business for her own company? O’Mahony also recalled the 2019 Galway Bay Hotel episode: Joseph ordered house red wine, was served blackcurrant juice, and asked whether it was a mistake or racism. She later wondered if the salad had been washed and said staff had “whipped out” the only Black server. Joseph replied by listing extra credentials. She did not contest the facts. The first video spread fast. Commentary channels called it a “zinger” that “took off like a rocket.” The X post drew thousands of likes and nearly a thousand reposts; YouTube copies added tens of thousands of views. Five days later came “This is Ireland.” That post alone passed 200,000 views, with more than 4,500 likes and 1,200 reposts. Together they became the week’s most shared rebuttal of official race policy. Joseph’s reply treated extra qualifications as licence to tell Irish people their whiteness is a problem and that they must be retrained on white privilege. O’Mahony turned to history... The Irish have lived on this island for thousands of years. They fought the Normans, the Tudors and Cromwell. They endured confiscation, the Penal Laws, exile and the Famine that killed a million. They rose in 1916 and won independence the hard way. “We were never the masters of plantations. We were the ones dispossessed and starved alive.”Irish people, she said, will not have their story rewritten to fit someone else’s racial ideology. “This land is soaked in the blood of our ancestors.” Ireland remains the land of céad míle fáilte, but kindness is not weakness. “Above all else we are ruthlessly proud to be Irish.” The two videos first record how Joseph rose and now shapes policy that matches the training her institute sells; then they refuse an imported claim that a colonised people are privileged oppressors. In a country where official anti-racism often treats Irish identity as the problem, O’Mahony gave viewers the unapologetic answer they had been waiting to hear. Move over Eva Vlaardingerbroek. Ireland has its own shield maiden of the people.

Statement Release: “They’re Starving Us Out” – Fuel Protest Organiser John Dallon Slams Garda Tactics and Urges Public to Contact Ministers and Opposition TDs A leading organiser of Ireland’s fuel price protests has strongly condemned what he described as heavy-handed policing at the Whitegate oil refinery, accusing the authorities of unacceptable violence against peaceful demonstrators. John Dallon, a Kildare farmer and prominent spokesperson for the National Fuel Demonstrations, reacted sharply to Friday’s operation in which Garda public order units used pepper spray and forced removals to clear blockades and allow fuel tankers access to the country’s only oil refinery. “These were shocking tactics from Minister Martin, a man of supposed integrity and intelligence,” Dallon said. “The level of violence was utterly unacceptable dragging men across the ground and pepper spraying them”, He continued that the situation had escalated to the point where the Gardaí were “attempting to starve the people out” by not allowing protesters access to shops for basic supplies. Dallon called for widespread public support in Cork and across the country. He urged people to email and phone government ministers to condemn the actions, and to contact opposition TDs and councillors to come together and back the demonstrations. The protests, now in their fourth day, demand an immediate cap on diesel prices, the removal of carbon tax and excise duties, and genuine engagement with the Government.

Referendum Deception Exposed as Labour TD Admits 2018 Safeguards Were to Trick Voters As the Dáil narrowly advanced Sinn Féin’s bill to scrap the mandatory three-day reflection period for early abortions by 86 votes to 70, fresh scrutiny has fallen on the cynical politics behind the 2018 referendum “safeguards.” Labour TD Marie Sherlock’s open admission that the wait was merely a “political fix” to make the legislation “more palatable” has been seized upon as evidence of deliberate voter manipulation. In her Dáil contribution and jubilant Facebook video, Sherlock dismissed the 72-hour pause as “demeaning, degrading and moralistic”. She explicitly acknowledged it was inserted not for clinical reasons, but to reassure a sceptical public and secure the Yes vote to repeal the Eighth Amendment. For critics, this is a damning confession: the reflection period was bait, a temporary concession sold to moderate voters. Once the constitutional barrier fell, the plan was always to dismantle the promised limits and accelerate access. This approach, opponents argue, undermines democratic consent. Many voted Yes precisely because of the assurances of meaningful checks, including the three-day window for reflection. Sherlock’s celebration confirms the safeguards were never meant to endure. The human cost is the fast-tracking of tens of thousands more abortions with fewer opportunities for second thoughts. HSE data showing over 10,000 women who did not return after an initial consultation underscores the pause’s protective value. Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín strongly opposed the bill, highlighting its implications for women and the unborn. He pointed to last year’s record 10,852 abortions and argued the three-day period has already saved thousands of lives by giving women space to reconsider. Tóibín drew attention to the party dynamics: while most parties granted a free vote, Sinn Féin enforced a strict whip. Many Sinn Féin TDs privately disagreed but were forced to vote against their conscience, against the 2018 democratic framework, and against the safeguards promised to the Irish people just eight years ago. Those Sinn Féin TDs uncomfortable with their party’s hardline stance should now seriously consider decanting over to Aontú, which has consistently defended the original 2018 framework and pro-life safeguards. Sherlock’s “more palatable” comment, combined with Sinn Féin’s rigid whipping, paints a troubling picture of political expediency. What voters were promised in 2018 is being steadily unpicked. The three-day reflection period was one of the most visible reassurances. Its removal is viewed by many as a betrayal that accelerates the destruction of unborn life while eroding faith in referendums. The bill now proceeds to the Committee Stage. Whether other elements of the original framework will also be changed or removed remains to be seen, but the pattern of incremental liberalisation after securing the repeal is clear. For Tóibín and others, this episode is not just about one waiting period, it is about whether Irish democracy still respects the commitments made to secure profound constitutional change.

Fuel Crisis Meeting in Manorhamilton Erupts as Speaker Sums Up National Frustration Hundreds of locals packed Bee Park Community Centre in Manorhamilton this evening for an emergency public meeting on Ireland’s spiralling fuel costs, the latest in a series of grassroots gatherings highlighting the anger of farmers, hauliers, contractors and ordinary motorists. Organised amid mounting pressure on the government to tackle diesel and petrol prices, the Leitrim event followed a similarly packed meeting in Portlaoise last weekend that drew more than 400 people demanding immediate relief. The mood was raw and determined. Attendees voiced fears that rising fuel bills are pushing rural businesses and families to breaking point, with many blaming the carbon tax and what they see as a disconnect between Dublin policymakers and the realities of life outside the capital. Christopher Duffy, a vocal campaigner who has helped organise the meetings, took the microphone and delivered what many in the room described as a powerful summary of the frustration felt across Ireland. In a speech captured on video and widely shared on social media, Duffy told the crowd: “We have a government that will wave any flag bar the Irish flag. They’re waving free Palestine flags-by the time we’re finished they will be waving free Dublin flags. We’re locking her down.” His words drew strong applause and nods of agreement from the audience, many of them men in work jackets and hi-vis vests who had come straight from farms, trucks or building sites. The reference to “locking her down” was understood by those present as a call for coordinated protest action, potentially bringing parts of Dublin or key infrastructure to a standstill, if the government fails to act. The meeting, which had been publicised in the days leading up to Easter weekend, was one of the final planned gatherings in the current wave of fuel protests. Organisers had urged hauliers, contractors and motorists from across the northwest to attend and “have their say”. Similar events in recent weeks have seen growing numbers turning out, with speakers repeatedly calling for the immediate suspension or removal of the carbon tax on fuel to protect jobs and keep rural Ireland moving. Campaigners argue that without urgent intervention, small farms and transport businesses face collapse. As the meeting ended, the message from Manorhamilton rang out loud and clear: Ireland’s fuel crisis has reached boiling point. Ordinary citizens are no longer prepared to stay silent. Final plans are now being prepared for Tuesday’s national shutdown.

Clarification Sought from Taoiseach, Justice Minister and Garda Commissioner Over Tullamore Show Incident The People’s Media Network, SnD Media, has formally written to An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan, and Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly seeking urgent clarification on two related matters of significant public concern: the physical detention of contractor Christopher Duffy at the Tullamore Show for attempting to ask a question of public representatives, and the policing of fuel demonstrations earlier this year. At the Tullamore Show last Saturday, Mr Duffy was physically detained by members of An Garda Síochána after approaching An Taoiseach and other representatives with a question. Video footage of the incident has since circulated widely on social media, accumulating millions of views and sparking widespread public discussion about access to elected officials and the right of citizens to ask questions in public settings. Mr Duffy has provided feedback emphasising the growing frustration among the public. He described feeling under continuous scrutiny at the event, stating that every move he made was met with intimidation from members of An Garda Síochána. SnD Media will be releasing further analysis and feedback from citizens later today, including contributions from Michelle Keane, John Dallon, and Councillor Gavin Pepper. In separate formal emails sent this week, the People’s Media Network has asked the three senior figures to address why members of the general public were not permitted to put questions to An Taoiseach and other representatives at the event, with specific reference to Mr Duffy’s detention. The correspondence also raises questions about the April fuel demonstrations, which organisers, including Mr Duffy, say were arranged in ongoing communication with An Garda Síochána. According to the organisers, no prior instruction was issued by Gardaí before a large-scale deployment of Garda and Defence Forces personnel moved to clear the site, during which batons and pepper spray were used on multiple peaceful demonstrators. The People’s Media Network has framed the requests as a matter of democratic accountability, emphasising the importance of transparency regarding freedom of expression, the right to peaceful assembly, due process, and the proportionate use of force by An Garda Síochána. Analysis of the Tullamore Show incidents and the subsequent online reaction points to growing public unease about the space available for ordinary citizens to engage directly with their elected representatives. The rapid spread of the video of Mr Duffy’s detention has amplified calls for clear answers from those in positions of authority. SnD Media will continue to monitor responses to the correspondence and will report further as developments arise, including the additional citizen feedback scheduled for release later today.

Duffys Defiant Dublin Convoy Regroup in Navan as Nationwide Movement Gains Momentum Hundreds of trucks, tractors, and supporters converged in Navan today in a show of solidarity following the early-morning clearance of protest blockades in Dublin and elsewhere. Organisers described the Garda operation as a significant over-use of resources. Christopher Duffy, a prominent spokesman and agricultural contractor, stated that protesters received no prior warning from any Garda member on the ground to move their vehicles or that they were committing an offence. He emphasised that the “four Es” procedure, as outlined by An Garda Síochána, was never followed, in fact, "they didn't even manage to get past the first one Engage" Large crowds turned out to back the fuel price protesters, many of whom had earlier taken part in convoys that brought parts of Dublin to a standstill earlier in the week. The demonstrations, now entering their sixth day, are driven by soaring diesel, petrol, and agricultural fuel costs linked to international events and domestic taxation. Aontú leader and Meath West TD Peadar Tóibín addressed the gathering, delivering a strong speech in which he reiterated calls for a vote of no confidence in the government. Tóibín has previously urged ministers to engage directly in dialogue with protesters rather than escalate tensions. Support for the movement has continued to swell across Ireland. In Portlaoise, thousands turned out despite extremely poor weather conditions, while similar gatherings have been reported in multiple counties. Many participants and observers have described it as one of the fastest-growing protest movements in modern Irish history. Protesters are demanding government intervention, including measures to cap fuel prices and ease the burden of taxes and carbon charges on hauliers, farmers, and contractors who say rising costs threaten their livelihoods. Organisers have signalled that demonstrations will continue in various forms nationwide, with further actions expected in the coming days.

Enoch Burke Stands in Defiance of Court Order Again, Returning to Work One Day After Release Enoch Burke returned to the gates of Wilson’s Hospital School at Multyfarnham Co. Westmeath this morning, less than 24 hours after his release from Mountjoy Prison, continued his defiance of a long-standing court order that bars him from the premises. Shortly after his release yesterday, Mr Burke posted a video statement on X in which he described the High Court decision to free him as an “utter travesty of justice”. He accused Mr Justice Brian Cregan of previously threatening him with indefinite imprisonment and claimed the judge was now improperly “counselling” the Disciplinary Appeals Panel on how to defend against his legal challenge. He further alleged unfair procedures at a 13 December appeal hearing, including the blocking of cross-examination of witnesses and a remark from one panel member that she would follow any instruction from a principal on pronoun usage without question. Arriving early at the school today, Mr Burke told reporters he was “at work” and remained resolute in his position. He expressed appreciation for the widespread public support he received throughout the day.Supporters, including locals, community groups and members of Dublin Says No, gathered outside the school gates in solidarity. Students repeatedly came to the boundary to wave and call out in support, while passing motorists frequently beeped their horns. The school authorities, prevented Mr Burke from entering the premises and swiftly moved to initiate fresh contempt proceedings. Although Gardaí were present there was no intervention and Mr Burke was allowed to remain peacefully at the gates all day. This afternoon, the High Court granted an application facilitating steps toward his potential re-imprisonment. Mr Burke has consistently maintained that his refusal to comply with the school’s directives on transgender pronoun usage stems from his religious beliefs and has refused to purge his contempt or stay away from the school. SnD Media were on the ground today and we spoke to a number of supporters including one elderly gentleman that stated "God created Man and Woman" and that Mr Burke was "right right right, no matter what the judges say".
