Tip: you don't actually have to dodge Guts Man's stun. It always lasts the same amount and it's only applied once. If you try to jump it and miss the timing, it'll wear out too late, but if you just stand in place and take it right away, it'll wear out in time for you to dodge.

There's something to the MM1 boss style. The designers weren't occupied with the usual pattern cycles. The bosses feel alive, as if controlled by P2. They are wild but not random. Their moves are a reaction to yours. It's not meant to be clean. You have to embrace the chaos.

Big pool of sprites on SNES gave me a unique opportunity: Instead of building the sprite table each frame, I tie sprite and entity slots together, allowing for selective updates with simpler calculations. Saves many cycles so I can spawn lots of particles+DMA. #snesdev #gamedev
