A video released during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations shows Al-Shabaab spokesman Ali Dhere sending his son to take part in an istishhadi - or suicide commando - operation carried out by the group in Mogadishu. The attack targeted Jili’ow, a key headquarters of #Somalia’s intelligence agency that also contains an underground prison in the capital. Those who monitor Al-Shabaab say this is only the second time it has surfaced publicly that a senior figure within the group has sent his own son on such a mission. The first involved Yusuf Kabatukade, the current Al-Shabaab governor of the Middle Shabelle region.

Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubair told Somali Ambassador to the UN Abukar Bale that, as a schoolboy, his father would bring him to #Somalia during the summer, when the country was very peaceful. After landing, they would take a taxi to Janale, where they had a farm. Then, in 1991, al-Jubair saw television reports from NGOs showing Somalis starving - and he did not believe them.
