BURKINABÉ MUSLIM REACTS TO IBRAHIM TRAORÉ While most people in Burkina Faso and beyond have responded favourably to President Ibrahim Traoré's recent speech in Ouahigouya, Burkina Faso, others have responded with confusion or even offence. Their reaction is in regard to Traoré's statements about the Arab-Muslim slave trade and Sharia law. To gain insight into Traoré's perspective, we spoke with Abdoul-Salam Koussoubé, a Muslim Pan-African activist and organiser in his home country of Burkina Faso, a member of the Thomas Sankara Centre in Ouagadougou (@burkinabooks). So let us know what you think of his position and his arguments. Is he on to something, or did he totally miss the mark?

KENYA IS STILL PAYING THE PENSIONS OF BRITISH COLONIALISTS According to Tom Ogada, an economic justice expert, speaking on Spice FM alongside Diana Gichengo of the Institute for Social Accountability (TISA), Kenya allocates approximately KSh39 million annually to pensions for former British colonial civil servants. While we have not independently verified the specific figure through official budget documents, Kenya does continue to pay pensions to some former colonial-era civil servants under its public pension system. The revelation has sparked criticism on social media, with many Kenyan users expressing outrage that, more than 63 years after so-called independence, public funds are still being used to pay pensions to individuals who served the colonial administration. Some commenters described the continued payments as an absurd legacy of colonial rule. The conversation highlights the absurdity of the current fiscal situation, with Gichengo pointing out that these payments are hidden in plain sight within the official budget books. "We are very good," she remarked ironically, noting that while the government pressures citizens to pay more taxes, it continues to prioritise the financial comfort of former colonisers over the needs of the Kenyan people. This segment serves as a powerful reminder of how imperial structures remain embedded in post-colonial governance, forcing nations like Kenya to continue subsidising their own historical oppressors under the guise of bureaucratic obligation. It is also a striking example of why decolonisation is an economic necessity.

NIGERIA IS NOW DIRECTLY UNDER US STATE CAPTURE BREAKING: U.S. Embassy in Nigeria Now Directly Coordinates With NSA’s Office To Arrest Nigerian Citizens Over Criticism of Israel, USA In a stunning development, the United States Embassy in Nigeria has established a direct coordination framework with the Office of the National Security Adviser to monitor the social media activities of Nigerian citizens, directly recommending individuals for arrest and prosecution based on their online criticism of Israel and the United States. Under this framework, exclusively revealed to Sovereign Media, two Nigerian social media users, Sani Buhari and Abubakar Adamu, were recently arrested by the Department of State Security Services (DSS) and charged in court for posts on X that were critical of Israel's genocide in Palestine, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and US president Donald Trump. Buhari was eventually released, but only after posting a clearly forced apology to the US Embassy on his X handle by the DSS, while Adamu remains in custody. Since Bola Ahmed Tinubu took power in Nigeria in 2023, West Africa's erstwhile regional pillar, whose foreign policy still officially follows an "Africa First" doctrine, has increasingly begun operating as a satellite extension of western powers, including France and the US. For example, in December 2025, during a coup attempt in Benin, Tinubu deployed Nigerian air and ground forces to quell the attempt on the orders of French president Emmanuel Macron. The escalating pattern of policy decisions and geopolitical moves locking Nigeria into multiple security partnerships with western governments is raising the real possibility of the country being retrofitted into a vassal state without the ability to set its own internal security priorities, with foreign interests dictating what its citizens are allowed to say. If Nigeria's compromised foreign policy posture is not addressed quickly, Africa could see one of its most important countries abandon its historic role as a pillar of Pan-African support and turn into the continent's most dangerous vassal state. BATUK: BRITAIN'S COLONIAL GRIP IN KENYA BATUK: The White Man’s Burden in Kenya is not just a documentary about a British military base where soldiers roll around in the dirt for six months before returning home to the UK. It is a documentary about abuse of power, occupation of indigenous land and the unfinished business of colonialism. For decades, ordinary Kenyans living around BATUK have raised allegations of abuse, sexual violence, ecological destruction and impunity, while one of the world’s most powerful former colonial powers continues to operate freely on Kenyan soil, handing out small amounts of compensation whenever evidence of alleged crimes reaches the media. At the centre of the documentary is the story of Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old Kenyan woman who was tortured, killed and dumped in a septic tank, while British soldiers mocked and ridiculed her death on social media. One soldier posed in front of the septic tank and posted, “If you know, you know.” Others joked about the five-month-old daughter she left behind, posting imagery of a baby beside a gravesite. But the story goes beyond Agnes and her tragic killing and the shocking behaviour of British troops thereafter. The documentary asks deeper questions: How did Britain maintain a military presence in Kenya, the very same year the country supposedly gained independence? Why are foreign troops still training on stolen land while local communities continue to suffer? And above all, why does the Kenyan government allow all of this? Laikipia County, currently in the spotlight because of plans for an Ebola quarantine facility for US citizens, is the very same county where the BATUK military base is headquartered. This documentary helps connect the dots about why Kenya’s political elite remain so willing to cede sovereignty to foreign powers like Britain, and why they may be willing to do the same again with the United States. This is Sovereign Media’s first-ever documentary. We are a small, independent team with a brand-new YouTube channel and no corporate backing. We need your support now more than ever. Watch. Share. "WE LIED ABOUT IRAQ. WE LIED ABOUT AFGHANISTAN. WE LIED ABOUT LIBYA" Lawrence Wilkerson, who served from 2002 to 2005 as chief of staff to former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, says the U.S. lied about all its wars and has done more than any other country to arm and contribute to the proliferation of terrorist groups around the world. In this short clip, Wilkerson points to two specific examples. The first is Libya. After the NATO-led regime-change war against Muammar Gaddafi, the power vacuum left behind, combined with massive stockpiles of unsecured weapons, helped fuel armed groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda across the region. To this day, heavily armed militant groups continue to destabilise Libya, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, countries around the Lake Chad Basin, as well as having previously fuelled an insurgency in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. The second example he gives is Iraq. Once again, the lies pushed by George W. Bush, Tony Blair and Colin Powell about weapons of mass destruction provided the justification for an illegal war that triggered a cycle of violence and devastation, killing more than 1 million Iraqis. Former members of Ba'ath Party military structures and unsecured weapons caches later became part of the chaos that enabled the rise of ISIS and Al-Qaeda in Iraq, which devastated Iraq and Syria and spread sectarian violence across what was once the heartland of ancient civilisations like Mesopotamia. And this is Empire 101, from a former insider himself. The lies become wars. The wars leave millions dead, displaced or traumatised. And before an empire exits, it often leaves countries fractured, battling armed extremists that were empowered, armed and funded by the very interventions sold as “liberation.” Then, years later, the same powers negotiate with or rebrand forces they once claimed they were fighting.

US SOLDIER TO IRAQI CHILD: "IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE THIS I'D PROBABLY KI** YOU" This video from the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq says it all. A soldier tells an Iraqi child serving him tea, “I’d k*ll you if you didn’t have this.” The soldier then proceeds to humiliate what appears to be the child’s father, cursing at him profusely and telling him, “Don’t interrupt me.” For the occupying American soldier, this may have been a joke. But for the more than a million Iraqis k*lled, and more than 9 million displaced and whose lives were devastated by George W. Bush’s war, it was not. With its wars against Iraq in 1991 and 2003, the U.S. military ultimately transformed what had been a relatively stable nation in West Asia into a landscape marked by sectarian conflict and takfiri extremism and created the conditions that ultimately gave rise to the extremist militant group ISIS. This is what occupation and colonial violence leaves behind, even when the headlines describe it as "liberation."

HARRY POTTER ACTOR ON PALESTINE ACTION British actor Alfred Enoch, who starred in the Harry Potter franchise and How to Get Away with M*rder, spoke with Sovereign Media on 26 November 2025, outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London, England. Hundreds gathered in support of Palestine Action, a UK-based organisation that was proscribed as a t*rrorist organisation on 5 June 2025, a move described by Alfred Enoch as “one of many repressive measures this government has taken to suppress the Palestine solidarity movement.” Originating in the United Kingdom, Palestine Action is responsible for targeting Israel’s arms industry across the globe, predominantly focusing on Elbit Systems, an Israeli private arms company that markets its weaponry as battlefield tested, as such items have already proven to be effective against the Palestinian people. The group was banned after claiming responsibility for targeting RAF Brize Norton, breaking into the airbase and causing over £7 million worth of damage, specifically by spray-painting two RAF Voyager planes. “At least one of the Voyager aircraft targeted by Palestine Action, moreover, had been involved in military operations in support of Israel. ZZ338 was used to facilitate airstrikes on Yemen in February 2024, which were conducted in no small part to shield Israel from the consequences of its g*nocide in Gaza”, according to DeclassifiedUK. Multiple arrests occurred, predominantly of those aged 60+, as they sat peacefully outside the Royal Courts of Justice, for holding a placard that reads “I oppose g*nocide. I support Palestine Action” as the courts were carrying out a judicial review of the government’s decision to proscribe the group as a terrorist organisation. Many political commentators have expressed outrage that the United Kingdom, which prides itself as a beacon of free speech, to the extent that it's willing to invade Afghanistan and later Iraq in the name of democracy, is arresting protesters, predominantly the elderly, for exercising their democratic right to form an assembly and protest. ZIMBABWE PRESIDENT SCHOOLS TUCKER CARLSON This exchange between right wing commentator Tucker Carlson and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the World Governments Summit is revealing, not for what Carlson uncovers, but for how clearly he echoes a long standing Western distortion of African history. Carlson frames Zimbabwe’s land reform as a racial injustice against white farmers, recycling a narrative that strips colonialism of context. Mnangagwa pushes back, calmly but firmly, reminding him of a basic historical truth: Zimbabwe was colonised, its land violently seized by settlers, and independence required reclaiming what was taken. Land was never “white” or “black”; it belonged to the native Africans who were systemically dispossessed. The liberation struggle, led by the late Robert Mugabe representing ZANU and the late Joshua Nkomo representing ZAPU, was not just about establishing a Western-style democratic system; it was first and foremost about reclaiming land. Hence, the Lancaster Agreement was signed in London and stipulated that the British state should compensate white farmers for land reclaimed by the newly independent state. But when the British reneged on their promises and veterans who had sacrificed their lives for independence became frustrated that they were still landless over 20 years after independence, they started pressuring the ZANU PF government, led by Mugabe, to push through the land reform Carlson references, without giving any historical context. What followed the land reform decades were economic sanctions designed to punish African self-determinationn. This is how colonialism survives: not only through force, but through narrative. By rewriting history, erasing context, and manufacturing moral outrage, Western media launders power into “concern” and calls it journalism. NYT CONCEDES MOSSAD BEHIND IRAN RIOTS The NYT joins a long list of institutions, influencers, and politicians that concede that the riots in Iran at the start of the year were a result of foreign meddling - particularly, by the CIA and Mossad. Marketed as organic to generate public consent for war on Iran, the riots that spread across Iran were exposed as foreign meddling operations well before they reached their peak. Now, the same media institutions that peddled the riots as organic are now admitting the role of imperialist intelligence agencies in sparking them - as part of a larger plan to topple the Islamic Republic of Iran. EMIRATES LOVES SUDAN: HOW THE UAE USES MUSIC TO WHITEWASH A GENOCIDE In May 2026, the UAE hosted a high-profile cultural celebration titled "Emirates Loves Sudan," featuring some of the Sudan's most famous singers. But beneath the music and "feel-good" vibes lies a calculated attempt at, what activists say, is the whitewashing of a g*nocide, amid credible reports that the UAE bankrolls the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. This is why Sudanese activists dismissed the "Emirates Loves Sudan" event as a cynical PR campaign designed to mask complicity in the destruction of their country. Two in particular recorded videos that went viral in response to the event . "The blood of Sudanese civilians is not dry. More PR campaigns and “feel good” media will not rehabilitate your image," said Mina (@minathegirl_ on Instagram). In addition, Taiseer (@taiseerdesigns on Instagram) pointed out the complicity of Sudanese people who attended the event. "They want to use us for soft propaganda [...] Can we not give them this ammunition? Can we not give them what they want?," she said. Both activists also noted the irony behind the name of the event. Taiseer highlighted the "provoactive" nature of the title 'Emirates Loves Sudan'. Mina brought attention to the swift censorship she was met with when attempting to challenge the narrative, sharing her experience of being blocked by the Emirates Loves Sudan Instragram page within minutes for commenting "Emirates also loves to fund the RSF and blow the Sudanese people to bits." Indeed, while the event's organisers used the hashtag #EmiratesLovesSudan to promote the event, Sudanese social media users came up with an alternative: #TheEmiratesLovesK*llingTheSudanese. The response of the Sudanese people to this event is a reminder that no amount of cultural celebration or music can rehabilitate a reputation built on complicity in g*nocide.

BURKINA FASO'S INSTITUTE OF BLACK PEOPLES In the 1980s, Thomas Sankara dreamed of creating a world-class centre dedicated to Black history and culture. It was to be called the Institute of Black Peoples, a project which Sankara took very seriously. In 1986, he took concrete steps to prepare for the creation of this institute. The following year, he was assassinated, and nothing substantial came out of his idea. That is, until the current president of Burkina Faso, President Ibrahim Traoré, took the torch. On 30 June 2026, the Institute, now relaunched under the name Farafina Institute of Black Peoples, appointed its steering committee. The committee includes some of the most prominent faces in the French-speaking Pan-African movement, such as Nathalie Yamb and Franklin Nyamsi. The president of the Institute is former Prime Minister Dr Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambela, who was involved in the Democratic People's Revolution under Thomas Sankara. During that time, Kyelem de Tambela was studying in French; however, he organised a diasporic cell of the Committees for the Defence of the Revolution. Burkina Faso has been working to forge closer relationships with Africans across the continent and the diaspora since Traoré came to power. The country is a part of the Pan-African Alliance of Sahel States Confederation, which seeks to unify Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. In November 2025, Burkina Faso welcomed a large delegation of diasporic Africans from the United States and the Caribbean, to whom the country granted permanent residency status.

U.S. ADMITS REAL MOTIVE IN VENEZUELA In a recent address, U.S. Southern Command chief General Laura Richardson said out loud what Washington has long denied: that its true concern in Latin America is not democracy or human rights, but control. Control over oil, lithium, gold, and rare earth minerals, the raw materials that sustain Western militaries, industries, and empires. Richardson openly singled out Venezuela, a nation sitting on the planet's largest proven oil reserves and vast deposits of strategic minerals. For decades, Washington's policies of sanctions, coups, and economic warfare have been justified in the name of 'freedom' or 'democracy promotion'. But her remarks confirm what millions across the Global South already knew: this has always been about taking over markets, not liberation. From the jungles of the Amazon to the oil-rich Orinoco Belt, U.S. power operates like a 21st-century colonial enterprise, draining nations of their wealth while branding resistance as "dictatorship." The empire does not defend democracy; it defends access. And when a nation like Venezuela refuses to kneel, it becomes the next target in a long line of regime change projects stretching from Baghdad to Caracas. General Richardson did not make a mistake. She told the truth. The empire has spoken, and it is not peace it wants. It is possession. HOW UK SCAMMED IRAN Boris Johnson, a former Prime Minister of the Uk, former foreign secretary and former Mayor of London revealed in an interview with Arab journalist Ammar Taqi that the UK had effectively scammed Iran. He went to explain that the Shah of Iran had paid 400 million pounds for Chieftain tanks, ones that were then never sold to Iran and instead sold to others including Iran's arch-rival, Saddam Hussain. He said the UK had "sold the same camel twice" adding that it was classic British maneuver just like they had done in Palestine. The takeaways here are clear, first that colonial entities like the UK have long had no integrity in their dealings whether they be military or diplomatic. Secondly, the audacity and almost unserious manner in which Johnson breaks this down shows how Empire is shameless even when admitting its own wrongdoing. Ironically, it is Iran that is demonized, and Palestinian resistance scrutinized yet as is clear in this interview it is always Empire that commits the first transgression. UK FAILED TO PREVENT SUDAN GENOCIDE BECAUSE IT FEARED UPSETTING THE UAE The UK’s "special relationship" with the UAE has been blamed for failing to prevent “one of the single largest mass casualty events of the 21st Century”. In a shocking testimony before the UK Parliament’s International Development Select Committee, Nathaniel Raymond, Executive Director of the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab, confirmed that the UK Foreign Office possessed satellite intelligence warning about pending m*ssacres by the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the western Sudanese city of Al-Fashir, but chose to look the other way to protect its lucrative ties with the Gulf petrostate. When asked by Committee Chair Sarah Champion if the UK prioritised its relationship with the UAE over preventing g*nocide, Raymond’s answer was unequivocal: "100%." Despite the UK serving as the lead nation on Sudan at the UN Security Council, Raymond said the massacre in Al-Fashir was made possible by the UK’s "absence of political will” to “deal with the strategic alliance of the RSF’s main military enabler”. Critics say that this reflects UK complicity in RSF massacres that the UN would describe as g*nocidal. At the time of reporting, UK Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper claimed to be "concerned" about the imminent threat RSF massacres in the central Sudanese city of Al-Obeid. However, activists noted the UK's continued unwillingness to challenge their Emirati partners on the atrocities in Sudan they sponsor.

UK DIDN’T STOP GENOCIDE IN SUDAN “BECAUSE IT WAS EASIER” TO STAND WITH UAE The UK government knowingly prioritised its relationship with the UAE over preventing a g*nocide in Sudan, according to human rights investigator Nathaniel Raymond. Appearing before the UK Parliament’s International Development Committee, the Executive Director of the Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) at Yale, testified that the UK Foreign Office (FCDO) repeatedly dismissed warnings about imminent atrocities perpetrated by the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in North Darfur’s state capital Al-Fashir. Al-Fashir fell to the RSF in October 2025, triggering massacres described by the UN as bearing the hallmarks of g*nocide. During the hearing, Committee Chair Sarah Champion asked if the UK opted to protect its ties with the UAE rather than call out these documented atrocities, Raymond’s answer was unequivocal: "100%." When pressed on why, he simply replied: "Because it was easier." In addition, FCDO whistleblowers previously revealed that the term "g*nocide" was scrubbed from internal risk assessments in 2023. And when the UK led the UN Security Council’s Sudan file, it allegedly suppressed criticism of the UAE for arming the RSF. This reinforces claims that the UK is leveraging its diplomatic position to shield the UAE as it bankrolls the RSF.

POLICE BRUTALITY ON THE PITCH BEFORE WORLD CUP The heavily securitised and aggressive nature of American law enforcement has spilled onto the football pitch, raising severe concerns just as the World Cup begins. During a pre-World Cup friendly match between Ecuador and Guatemala held in Ohio, US police were filmed violently dragging away a fan who had invaded the pitch. The heavy-handed response immediately disrupted the match and sparked a tense confrontation on the field. Ecuador’s star midfielder and Chelsea player, Moisés Caicedo, was forced to step in directly, actively intervening with the officers in an attempt to calm the situation and protect the spectator from escalating police aggression. The incident serves as a stark preview of what critics warn is an overly militarised security apparatus hosting the international tournament. As the US faces intense scrutiny for using its administrative borders and police state tactics to control and suppress global audiences, this display of immediate physical force highlights a glaring cultural clash. For fans arriving from the Global South, the beautiful game in North America is being policed with the uncompromising hostility of the imperial state.

US-ZAMBIA HEALTH DEAL: BLACKMAIL AS US FOREIGN POLICY The US global health strategy is increasingly being recognised as a dangerous umbrella for advancing biomedical imperialism, and the example of Zambia is uniquely instructive. Under the proposed Zambia-US deal, life-saving HIV medication for 1.3 million Zambians would be used as a US bargaining chip to secure preferential access to Zambia's copper, lithium, cobalt, nickel and other so-called "critical minerals". Worse still, this blackmail foreign policy takes place against a background of decades of IMF and World Bank structural adjustment programmes which have systematically dismantled Zambia's healthcare system. Trump's stated policy migration "from charity to transactions" conveniently ignores the fact that Zambia's manufactured healthcare dependency was itself a US foreign policy creation. David Hundeyin
