Live action / animation hybrids have always worked better in small doses, & this commercial illustrates something I tried to articulate in my Superman commentary, which is that when you see Superman in his native cartoon form, your brain accepts him *as Superman* more you ever could any actor - even if you recognize Patrick Warburton's voice. This commercial requires less suspension of disbelief than any live action Superman film ever made

It's too bad Warner Bros. didn't just keep making big flashy Batman movies with special guest villains every 2-3 years into the 2000s, because here's Martin Short playing the Mad Hatter in 1999 & you can absolutely see the funny but menacing energy he would've brought to the role
