Live action / animation hybrids have always worked better in small doses, & this commercial illustrates something I tried to articulate in my Superman commentary, which is that when you see Superman in his native cartoon form, your brain accepts him *as Superman* more you ever could any actor...

Patrick Warburton saying "Lois" doesn't make me think Lois Lane.

Patrick Warburton should be the default voice for Superman.

Can't wait for your video, but I have a question. Do you think this applies to "mixed media" as well? Like if you had a clay character interacting with a 2D hand drawn character, do your criticisms of "live action/animation" come into play? Or no since both are animated?

No, as you'll see in the vid my criticisms are aimed at films which came after Roger Rabbit which tried to imitate it in the most superficial way - "Look, a famous cartoon character with a familiar actor!" - & this applies not just to the more obvious ripoffs but basically the whole subgenre of live action films which adapt cartoons by using pseudo-realistic CG characters, like Alvin and the Chipmunks

Nah, he still just sounds like Puddy. I was always annoyed by the woman they cast as Lois. Pretty frumpy looking.

Tony Robbins explains why most people never reach their potential and it has nothing to do with talent. Robbins: “The Holy Grail between somebody taking action or not is one word: certainty.” You can have enormous potential and still do almost nothing if you don’t believe your actions will produce the result you want. Potential → belief → action → results. Then the results reinforce the belief. If you believe it won’t work, you take small action. Small action produces small results. Those results become “proof” that your original belief was correct. Robbins: “You go, ‘See, I told you this was a waste of time. I told you this wouldn’t work.’” Now the loop feeds itself. Less belief. Less action. Worse results. Even less belief. A self-fulfilling downward spiral. But the same mechanism can run in reverse. If you become certain that you will find a way, your perception of your own potential changes. That produces more action, which creates better results, which strengthens the belief. Robbins: “If you get yourself in a state of certainty that this is going to work… then you have a lot more potential.” This is why Robbins says certainty matters more than motivation. Motivation can make you act once. Certainty makes you keep acting when the evidence hasn’t arrived yet. Roger Bannister is his example. For centuries, nobody had broken the four-minute mile. Then Bannister did it. Within two years, 37 other people had also run a mile under four minutes. The human potential hadn’t suddenly changed. The belief about what was possible had. That is the real danger of believing something is impossible. You don’t just predict the outcome. You change the amount of action you’re willing to take—and eventually produce the very result you expected.

Arnold Schwarzenegger gets brutally honest about what it feels like to watch the body that once made him “Superman” slowly change with age. 🥲 “It’s fun in another way because I kind of smile because every day I do look, you know, in a mirror and I say, ‘Yep, you suck.’ Look at this body. Look at the pectoral muscles that used to be firm and perky and kind of like really powerful with a station in there, now they’re just hanging there. I mean, what the hell is going on here? You know, it’s sad also because as I said to people, it’s one thing to see yourself get older and more and more out of shape, but most of the people are not, never have been in shape. So what does it mean, ‘getting out of shape’? They’ve always looked at the shitty body, so therefore it gets shitty as time goes on. It’s just when you have been hailed for years as this supreme body, you know, and you have the definition, and you see the veins coming down your abs, and you see veins on top of your chest, oh, you were Superman. I know, you see all this stuff, and now you cut and you roll the clock for about 50 years, and now you’re standing there and you don’t see that anymore. So that’s kind of like, ‘Wow,’ you know. I never ever thought about that when I was like 30 years old or 40 years old that this is going to happen.” — Arnold Schwarzenegger There’s something unusually human about hearing Arnold Schwarzenegger talk about aging this way. This is a man who spent decades being celebrated for having one of the most impressive physiques in the world, yet even he has to confront the reality that the body eventually changes. What makes the clip powerful is that he isn’t pretending he loves every part of getting older. He admits that it sucks. But underneath the humor and frustration is a much deeper realization: you eventually have to accept your humanity, even if you once felt like Superman. That’s a lesson that goes far beyond bodybuilding. Time changes all of us, and learning to accept that may be one of the hardest parts of getting older.
