Anomaa Bronii, my daughter in law, called me in the afternoon and said, ‘Mummy, I’m sorry I couldn’t be there today, but what did you cook?’ I said ‘Jollof, kebabs, spare ribs, spicy chicken, fried yam and plantain, goat meat stew, potato salad, lamb chops, Stephanie style, Gizzards and home made bread’. With a burst of excitement, Anomaa chirped, ‘Can you package some food for me?’. I smiled happily and said ‘Of Course, do you want everything?’ She joyously replied ‘Yes please. I’d love a lot more of the gizzard’. I looked in the almost empty gizzard dish and said ‘The girls ate most of that, but I’ll cook a fresh batch for you, don’t worry’. For a few days, JJ and Anomaa will have a feast and Cameron will also be set for the week with plenty of food in his fridge. Both left very happy. Unfortunately, the boys left me with 3 very unhappy, and angry daughters and a husband who were ready to be@t me, for giving all the food to my boys.🫣 Family Sundays is important to me, so when my African cooking brings my children back home, that makes me very happy. My job is done.

I remember when Jon asked me to marry him, I was living with my Uncle who disapproved of the relationship. My life was centred around my school, work, chores and bed. Socialising with anyone outside of family friends and family was forbidden. After Jon proposed, I had to run to catch my train to get home before my uncle got home. What a life!🫣
