The government has shown it will engage in meaningful and constructive talks with health unions. We want to find a way forward with @BMA_JuniorDocs but a demand of a 35% pay rise is not reasonable. If the BMA move significantly on this and cancels strikes we can resume talks.

I have made a formal offer to unions following constructive talks. It will give staff including nurses, paramedics and physios a fair pay rise while protecting our commitment to halve inflation. NHS workers do a brilliant job and I urge union members to accept this offer.

I'm disappointed the BMA is going ahead with this week’s strike given the average consultant’s NHS earnings are expected to increase to £134K a year. My door's always open to discuss non-pay issues but this pay award is final so I urge the BMA to end their strikes immediately 👇

We're working hard with NHS England to mitigate the impact of junior doctor strikes this week. @BMA_JuniorDocs declined my offer to enter formal pay negotiations and I urge them to reconsider, pause strikes and come to the table - as the other health unions have.

Today’s strikes are an unwelcome return to disruption when the NHS is already under huge pressure. We have contingency plans to protect patients, but there will inevitably be an impact. Continue to call 999 for life-saving care and use NHS 111 online for urgent advice.

I welcome and am accepting the recommendations of the pay review body in full which means doctors, consultants & senior NHS staff will get a 6% pay rise. Junior doctors will also get an extra £1,250 meaning those working in their 1st year will receive a 10.3% pay increase. 1/2

Patients are bearing the brunt of the impact of continuous strikes across the NHS. Further action by the BMA will cause more appointments and procedures to be postponed. My door is always open to discuss how to improve doctors’ working lives, but this pay award is final. 1/2
