My closing argument from last night’s debate. Some may not want to hear it — but it’s the truth. I know many people feel an emotional connection to certain candidates in this race. But we can’t afford to let emotion cloud strategy. The reality is this: in today’s political climate, a status-quo, machine-backed candidate simply cannot beat Jack Ciattarelli in November. In my closing, I laid out exactly why the establishment choice — Sherrill in North Jersey and Sweeney in South Jersey — will lose this fall. And the stakes? They couldn’t be higher. I urge you to listen. Because the truth matters. And what happens on June 10 will determine if we have any chance of winning in November.

In #JerseyCity, thank you to everyone who stepped forward to run for office - it’s never easy to put yourself out there. We now head to runoffs for Mayor and for 7 of our 9 council seats. The decisions ahead will shape the future of our city.

My campaign for governor - Unlike other candidates for Gov/potential candidates, there is no political boss that controls me or one I need permission from, there is no keeping a safe elected position to fall back on if the governor thing doesn’t work out, there is no misleading my constituents with what position I’m running for - I’m running for Governor because I know I can change NJ for the better This video was part of the end from the State of The City -I explained about my run for Governor and the decision to hand off to the next person the opportunity to be mayor. Truthful + fair post in that most Democratic candidates for NJ Governor have zero chance of beating Jack Ciattarelli. Even some polling well in the primary would get crushed in November general election. Bottom line: If you’re the machine’s pick, you will lose. I break it down here post-debate:

The corruption tax that you pay as a NJ resident bc of ballot design should be the starting point for cost reduction. There is a system that exists where elected are not accountable to the public. So we can talk about buzz words around budget reform all day but if you aren’t willing to creat accountability with fair ballots everything else is lip service

Side by side. Mikie Sherrill + I were asked the same question last night about mortality rates and women health outcomes in the minority communities. The contrast in our approach to solving problems couldn’t be more stark. Now is not the time to bring small solutions to big problems…or even worse, offer no solutions at all. It’s time for clear and concise leadership.
