Jacob Tierney on his decision to change Svetlana from a fling, as in the book, to a childhood friend and stable presence in Ilya's life in the series: "I kind of changed some things about her and started shaping the character, because I needed someone he could talk to. In the book, Rachel works through internal monologue, something I can't do. So, I needed to find a way to make him talk to someone or express things in a way that felt realistic to me. And a childhood friend, someone he also had an uncomplicated sexual relationship with, seemed like something that made sense for him. And it also made sense that he'd have that kind of relationship with someone he grew up with. The two of them grew up together and now live in another city, in another country, surrounded by another language. So, of course, that would make them even closer. And I think it was also really important to me that, if you're going to take this relationship seriously, she would need to know about him and Sasha. She would need to know his past. And there would be a certain sadness in that, because maybe their relationship never turned into a romance that, at some point, the two of them wanted to live out, but it didn't work out, because of the timing or for any other reason."

Connor Storrie was mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter “Fortunately, it doesn’t change the fact that at its best — Ilya’s Russian monologue to Shane and their shared shock at Scott’s championship “moment” made the fifth episode the peak — it was simply a very good show.” “Heated Rivalry was easily the biggest wholly off-radar success (I wish the TV Academy could reconsider its rules so that Storrie and François Arnaud could at least be in the Emmy conversation)”

Veteran Writer/Director of 20 years based in Wyoming - Goldie Jones says “Connor Storrie’s performance may be one of the most gifted actors I have ever seen on screen. I was definitely late to the heated rivalry fandom but I have been absolutely blown away by his entire performance. There are lot of good performances in the show but Connor Storrie…”

“…Also, I can’t pass on this category without mentioning that it’s an all-time Emmy Rules Crime that Heated Rivalry was not eligible… Connor Storrie came out of nowhere and delivered one of the most passionate, sexy, captivating, complicated, nuanced, and technically accomplished pieces of acting for this or any year. If he were in the running, Wyle would have a real threat.” - The Film Experience Today is another day to post this wonderful clip of crowds in West Hollywood watching Connor deliver what we call the monologue of all time🫶🏾
