Two significant changes are visible at Jantar Mantar this time. 1. It has become an open-air studio for REELS. There seem to be more content creators shooting videos than serious protesters pursuing an actual cause. PROTEST is the CONTENT now. 2. The fear of police action appears to have diminished. Unlike earlier occasions, there is no visible fear of FIRs or arrest. The withdrawal of FIRs in the previous round seems to have reduced the perceived consequences of breaking the law. Jantar Mantar was meant to be a place for democratic protest, not a permanent content studio, and certainly not a space where the law is seen as toothless.

राहुल गांधी पूछते हैं, मोदी हारते क्यों नहीं? उनके ख़िलाफ़ Anti-Incumbency क्यों नहीं है? इस सवाल का जवाब SIR में नहीं, इस भाषण में है। राहुल गांधी को भी सक्रिय राजनीति में लगभग 25 साल हो चुके हैं। #नरेंद्रमोदी को भी प्रशासन और शासन में लगभग 25 साल हो चुके हैं। लेकिन इन 25 वर्षों की राजनीति में फर्क साफ़ दिखाई देता है। एक तरफ़ सेवा है, दूसरी तरफ़ मेवा है। जनता सिर्फ़ इंस्टाग्राम की रील नहीं, नीयत और काम का हिसाब करती है। और शायद यही वजह है कि एक नेता 25 साल बाद भी जनता के बीच अपनी पकड़ बनाए हुए है, जबकि दूसरा आज भी ये समझने में लगा है कि आखिर मोदी हारते क्यों नहीं।

The harassment of journalists at #JantarMantar wasn’t an attack on one reporter or one channel it was an attack on the freedom to report. The most disappointing part? The silence of our own fraternity. When journalists are intimidated on the ground, every newsroom should stand together, regardless of ideology or competition. A united stand by all news channels could have sent a clear message: reporting cannot be bullied into submission. If we don’t defend the right to report today, tomorrow there may be no one left to report.
