“I want to tell Somalis that we are another state that has joined the Somali people” says Irro. A “new state” cannot emerge from dismantling Somali unity and history. He says Somaliland can help Somalia. How about number 1, stop relations with UAE & Israel come to the negotiation table. As Irro admits, Somaliland’s people are Somali, the land is Somali & the struggle for Somaliweyn was built with the blood and sacrifices of northerners as much as southerners. You cannot separate yourself from your own blood, history, language & identity while still claiming the Somali name. This is the reality in #Mogadishu today. A disabled man, who spent his life savings building a home for his family, has it demolished without warning, due process, or compensation. No notice. No opportunity to prepare. Just devastation and a family left with nothing. Even if these properties sit on government land, this is not how a state should act. The rule of law requires due process centred around transparency & humane treatment including fair notice, proper court orders & compensation or resettlement if needed. Anything less erodes trust and punishes the very people a government is meant to protect. Heartbreaking stuff ⤵️

#SOMALIA: Protests erupted in #Borama this evening, with demonstrators burning tyres and waving Somali flags amid growing anger over the lack of justice for civilians killed by Somaliland forces in December 2025. Somaliland minister Abdirahman Dahir Adan Bakaal visited the protesters and called for calm ahead of expected demonstrations tomorrow ⤵️

He said: “25 million people from Massawa to Mogadishu have 5,000km of coast, where is the justice for 130 million people inside #Ethiopia?”. In exchange for the transfer of ownership of a coastal region, he offered: - A share in the newly built GERD (10% to 20%) or; - A share in Ethiopian Airways (10% to 20%) or; - An exchange of land. #SOMALIA: Another difficult case. Sheikh Kasim, a 95-year-old blind man had his home demolished by bulldozers Shibis district, along with dozens of others. Why? There was a demand to pay $17,000 fee per house or lose it. He now sits in the rubble of what was once his home. Shocking stuff.

He categorically rejected Israel’s claims of “genocide” in northern Somalia, expressing outrage at the sheer hypocrisy of such accusations coming from a state that carries out mass killing & collective punishment in Gaza on a daily basis. The Ambassador further exposed the deliberate distortion at play, stressing that the so-called “Somaliland” Israel claims to recognise represents only the Northwestern region, while the Northeastern State remains firmly part of the Federal Government of Somalia. He also underscored that the people of #Awdal have unequivocally rejected both the genocide narrative & Israel’s illegitimate recognition. #Somalia will not accept lectures on law, morality or sovereignty from an occupying power.

While the victims initially received care in Borama, the severity of their injuries necessitated advanced treatment abroad.

#SOMALIA: In Hargeisa, dozens of youth organised a vigilante mob targeting #Oromo and other Ethiopian nationals due to anger over the mass influx. The reality is that many of these migrants are in Somaliland illegally, with the Oromo administration in Ethiopia known to weaponise mass migration to alter regional demographics. The frustration on the ground is therefore understandable. However, I firmly condemn attacks on children and families. Law and order must prevail, it is the duty of Somaliland regional police to arrest, detain, and deport illegal migrants. Public safety and national security cannot be left to vigilante groups but if the govt isn’t acting, such groups will prevail. Illegal migration is a serious national security threat, and it must be addressed by the state, not the streets.
