As Mayor, I won't hide behind statistics. Chicago deserves honest leadership. #chicago

Chicago is short more than 1,000 cops. Officers working 20 hours a day, 20 days in a row. When you call 9-1-1, help might not come fast enough. As mayor, I'll fill police vacancies, make people want to become officers again, and restore trust between the police and the communities they serve. #chicago

After four kids were shot during a teen takeover in Bronzeville, I met DeAndre Pratt. Seven years ago, at age 20, DeAndre was stabbed, gutted, and left to die in a vacant lot, He survived, reclaimed his life, and chose a new path. Today, he’s a dedicated father who shows young Chicagoans that the world is bigger than their block. DeAndre's story stuck with me deeply. When DeAndre mentioned he’d always dreamt of skydiving, I invited him along for his birthday to share the experience. Leadership is about opening doors. “Do you trust me?” “I do.” This campaign is about believing in each other and taking big leaps together. That’s why I’m running for Mayor. I'm running against a system that will spend big to keep and take power at City Hall. Our campaign will be powered by Chicagoans, not special interests. Because when I'm your Mayor, Chicago will be open for business, but never up for sale. #chicago

Food and grocery deserts must be a conversation in the mayoral race. It’s time to give this issue more attention and we must do something about it. Underserved neighborhoods across Chicago are losing critical resources. I heard this on my listening tour. City Hall isn’t talking about it. I will. Too many residents in these communities are forced to walk blocks or take buses to get to a grocery store. The loss of these Save A Lot stores will hit these communities hard and especially impact seniors, kids, and those with limited mobility.

Why is there a push to close Chicago Public Schools on May 1? According to the Illinois State Board of Education, only 1 in 3 CPS elementary students are proficient in reading and only 1 in 5 are proficient in math. Our kids need more time in the classroom, not less, yet Chicago parents are being asked for their kids to lose another day of school on May 1st for a political Day of Action. Parents and kids rely on schools for learning and consistency. Closing schools will send parents scrambling for babysitters or losing wages to stay home to care for their kids. For some kids, schools are where they get their meals and are the safest place they’ll be that day. As a CPS mom, I have skin in the game and expect my son to be in school where he belongs on May 1st. Keep Chicago’s students in the classroom, parents at work, and focus on the city’s test scores, not its politics. #chicago

Chicago has the second-largest public transit system in the United States. That's not a small feat. 8 train lines. Over 120 bus routes. Millions of Chicagoans moving across this city every single day. A system like that - built right - is a source of pride. It connects workers to jobs, kids to schools, and neighborhoods to opportunity. That's the CTA Chicago deserves. Safe, clean, reliable - a transit system that actually reflects the greatness of this city. #chicago

WATCH: Mayor Brandon Johnson can't name a single other city in America where the head tax (aka job killer tax) is working well - because there are none. Great question by Mary Ann Ahern. The mayor claims his head tax proposal means Chicago is "setting the trend". Unfortunately, it would be a downward trend. One that means greater job losses. Fighting for working people requires job creation. Working people enjoy having jobs to go to. Policies that lead to businesses cutting jobs are inherently harmful to the working class. Policies that lead to job creation are pro-worker. This should not be a complicated policy to understand. Chicago needs less taxes and more growth. The head tax not only hurts businesses for being successful, but it ultimately hurts the workers who depend on those important jobs the most.

This is absurd! Thanks to NBC Chicago & Ald. Raymond Lopez for investigating. An elderly widow is fighting a $233,439.90 water bill for a vacant home after the City installed a meter without her authorization! Even after admitting the meter was faulty, the City is now threatening not only her pension as a former city worker, but also the pensions of her two daughters — both retired Chicago police officers. How many more families are being crushed by this kind of mismanagement? I suspect this isn't a one-off but a bigger problem that needs to be fixed. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN AFFECTED BY FAULTY WATER METER BILLING? If so, share your story in my comments section. I'm listening.

All good things must come to an end. This wasn’t an easy decision, but I’m excited for what’s next. It’s been an honor to serve this great state. ❤️ I’m committed to finishing out my term strong and will continue working hard every day for the people I serve.

The first rule in stabilizing pensions is to do no harm. To get out of the huge hole, the next rule is to stop digging. The pension sweetener just signed into law breaks both rules. I made my position & concerns regarding unaffordability clear last week. Watch the clip.
