This is my 86 year old mother dancing with her 84 year old sister yesterday. Mom was widowed two years ago. Her children and grandchildren have worked overtime to prove that she’s still needed in this world because I know she would’ve been perfectly happy to have crawled into that grave with my father. In addition to grief, she battles emphysema. Her oxygen tank is always close by. My aunt still has her husband but the fact that she’s alive is a testament to modern medicine. Believe me when I tell you that she’s the sickest person most doctors will ever treat. I was worried about my mom making this trip because she struggles to breathe at altitude. However, watching her dance with her sister reminds me of the courageous people who refused to hide in 2020. My parents were among them. They knew life is too precious to put off, so they kept living. They kept visiting family and embracing family. I do not know how much time either of these women has left, but they inspire me with their fearlessness. Life is beautiful. Sometimes we need a couple of old ladies to remind us.
