ICYMI: Earlier this year, the former U.S. Surgeon General warned of strong links between alcohol use and cancer risk. Sylvester researchers analyzed national data and found that alcohol-related cancer deaths in the U.S. nearly doubled from 1990 to 2021—rising from under 12,000 to over 23,000 annually. The increase is largely driven by men aged 20-54, while rates in women declined slightly. Dr. Chinmay Jani (Chinmay Jani) presented the findings at the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting, where the abstract earned the ASCO Merit Award. Senior author Dr. Gilberto Lopes (gilberto lopes) calls for greater awareness and more in-depth research into alcohol’s role in cancer development. Learn more: #ASCO25

ICYMI: In newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM), the addition of daratumumab (D) to the KRd regimen significantly improved minimal residual disease (MRD) negativity. In the ADVANCE clinical trial (NCT04268498), 306 patients received either DKRd or KRd for 8 cycles. Results show a 2.5-fold increase in MRD negativity with DKRd (59% vs 36%). Despite some adverse events, no new safety concerns emerged. These promising results suggest DKRd should become the new standard for NDMM patients receiving KRd-based therapy. C. Ola Landgren, M.D. presented these findings at the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting. Learn more: #ASCO25 #MMsm
