Guillermo del Toro DECLARES WAR on AI - Says Users Are Erasing Generations of Real Artists.. I literally dislike this chap. Guillermo del Toro is acting like the biggest gatekeeper in Hollywood. He just fears the competition. He knows that newcomers will outperform him and tell better stories. The people who didn't get a chance before are now finally going to shine like stars. He says... absolutely no goddamn A.I. It's much more expensive? I don't care. You know? Because, well, listen... The thing is, what we're protecting is the beauty and the redeeming power of art. And it's not about who gets the job, it's about, we are protecting a lineage of art. If we cut a generation of people from learning their craft, you're cutting the rest of the history of that medium away from them, for what?

FILMMAKER JAMES CAMERON CRITIQUES GENERATIVE AI, describing it as a BLENDER OF MEDIOCRITY. His main argument is that AI cannot replicate the unique, lived experience of an individual. He explains that generative AI is trained on the aggregate of all human output everybody's experience, every performance that's ever been on every movie, and every joke. By blending all this data together, Cameron argues that AI produces the mean or the average result. He contrasts this with what audiences look for in stars and award winning performances.. , uniqueness, quirkiness, and the unexpected. He concludes that because AI aims for the average, it is fundamentally incapable of creating the unique qualities that define great art. Adding my 2 cents. I disagree with Cameron’s take. This perspective comes across as gatekeeping. Dismissing AI as merely a blender of mediocrity ignores its potential as a powerful tool for democratization and innovation. Established creators may feel threatened by new technology that lowers the barrier to entry for aspiring artists, but labeling the technology itself as inherently mediocre shuts down the possibility of creators using these tools to forge entirely new, unique forms of expression that haven't been seen before. Cinema people really love technology… right until the next generation gets access to it too. When rich studios use machines: innovation. future of storytelling. cinematic evolution. When independent creators use AI: destroying art. soulless. dangerous. Now AI scares people who built careers being impossible to compete with.
