This behaviour by State Bank of India Branch Manager is simply not acceptable. If you are doing customer interface work in Karnataka, especially in a sector like banking , it is important to communicate to customers in the language they know. Being adamant like this is simply not right. I have time and again raised this issue of mandatorily posting local staff or staff who know the local language in banking operations, both inside and outside Parliament. Just a few weeks ago, at a Public Accounts Committee meeting, I had raised this issue to the DFS Secretary who assured me action will be taken to follow a office notification that makes this requirement of local language knowledge compulsory. Looks like this still isn’t being enforced properly. I urge the concerned at State Bank of India to immediately implement the DFS policy that mandates local language requirement. I have spoken to concerned authorities to take action against this manager who has behaved in this manner. Banks working in Karnataka should serve customers in Kannada. Period.

But today Korea is 13 times richer than us in per capita terms, China is 5 times richer, Singapore is 38 times richer. Same starting point, just one difference, they freed their people to build. But the License-Permit-Quota Raj of Congress caged our economy and wealth creators.

What happens if delimitation is delayed or not undertaken? If nothing is done, Articles 81, 82 and 330A will automatically trigger after the next Census, leading to the redistribution of the existing 543 seats purely based on population. Take Kerala, from 20 seats today, it could drop to 14 if seats are redistributed based on projected 2027 population. The Modi Government’s proposal ensures the opposite, protecting existing representation while increasing seats. This is a clear case of gain, not loss. Watch my comments in the Lok Sabha today.

As promised, a new direct train from Bengaluru to Mumbai is flagged off today. 30 years after the first one began, in 1983. Another, faster Vande Bharat overnight sleeper will begin soon, in a couple of months. Thanking Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji for launching the SMVT Bengaluru-Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus bi-weekly Express service today. This new train will improve regional connectivity and contribute to the economic growth of Karnataka and Maharashtra. Today, I also requested for a high-speed rail corridor on this route, via Davanagere & Hubballi, which would greatly reduce travel time and generate immense opportunities for people in the region.

North Karnataka can fire Karnataka’s next phase of growth. If Karnataka has to become a $1 trillion economy, North and Central Karnataka cannot be left behind. Today, at the flag-off of the new direct Mumbai-Bengaluru train, I requested Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw ji for a High-Speed Rail / Bullet Train corridor between Mumbai and Bengaluru via Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad and Davangere. Rapid connectivity to North Karnataka will be a game-changer for jobs, industry, investment and opportunity. We will pursue this at every level with full commitment. North Karnataka deserves its rightful share in Karnataka’s growth story.

It has come to my notice that certain political actors are mischievously twisting my statement made during debate on Women Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha, specifically concerning the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill and the associated Telangana movement. First and foremost, I reject the deliberate insinuation being furthered by the Opposition, and firmly state my long-standing respect for the martyrs and protesters who sustained the Telangana movement. However, my comments must be seen as a reminder of how the Congress has traditionally betrayed the Southern states. In the case of the Telangana movement in particular, Congress’ betrayal has been stark. Starting with the police firing in 1969 that killed over 300 students and protesters, to nearly 1,200 deaths during the UPA years, the Telangana movement was built on the blood of martyrs who lost their lives due to Congress’ inaction. Even in 2013, the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh was announced after internal deliberations within the Congress party, while completely sidelining key stakeholders. It is a well-established fact that those who built the agitation were blindsided. Congress’ flip-flopping resulted in hundreds of deaths, including 16 people who died by self-immolation. I have merely highlighted how grossly mismanaged and non-transparent the partition was, which was an affront to the struggles and sacrifices made by the people of Telangana. The reference to the division of the country was made to draw a parallel with how the Congress acted, similar to how the erstwhile British rulers handled the division of Bharat. In conclusion, I reiterate my utmost respect for the martyrs and protesters of the Telangana movement. Their grit and resolve against years of injustice must serve as a reminder to fight the same forces that are attempting to place the Southern states at a disadvantage even today. I also strongly condemn all attempts to misrepresent my remarks, which were only meant to remind the great people of Telangana of their painful history and the gross injustice they endured for decades under the Congress. I want to thank Hon Min Shri G Kishan Reddy Garu, for putting the facts back on the table and highlighting misdeeds of Congress vis a vis Telangana Movement.

CM Siddaramaiah and Dy CM DK Shivakumar used population growth as reason to create Greater Bengaluru Authority by creating 5 new corporations. GBA was split into 369 wards, almost nearly doubling the earlier 198 in 5 corporations. Today, the same leaders are now seen opposing the delimitation process across the country.
