I don't think you'll find a sequence like this in any one episode of Spider-Man TAS, nor *most* animated TV shows up 'til that point in time! They trusted the audience enough to let them sit with these dramatic moments, and they hit even harder because of it.

"Runaway Brain" (1995) Chris Bailey directed the fuck outta this one. So many more dynamic shots during the action that make it feel way more cinematic than the avrage Mickey cartoon. This whole short was animated by a small team in France, and they knocked it outta the park.

She also animated one of the greatest car chases ever put to film in "The Fuma Conspiracy". Safe to say, one would be insanely lucky to have someone at her level directing & designing key BGs for theis show. Glad the TNBA/Superman crew realized that.

"Deputy Droopy" (1955) Yes, it's a remake, but it's a damn funny remake. "Rock-a-Bye Bear" was already terrific, but Tex finds new variations on this setup to keep things fresh. Ed Benedict's softer UPA-inspired redesigns are also *gorgeous*.

I never see anyone talk about this one, but it's one of my favorites from MGM. Avery takes a really simple premise ("What if a rooster refused to shut up?") and runs with it, and Spike is the perfect character to use in this scenario.

"Supper Villain" (1999) This dinner sequence is an instance where intentional slowness actually works and has a purpose in the story. Just having Harold threaten to shoot Utonium in the head once dinner is over makes the Professor stalling for time feel a lot less meandering.
