The fact that everyone has a different answer says it all. This is the one for me:

I don't think you'll find a sequence like this in any one episode of Spider-Man TAS, nor *most* animated TV shows up 'til that point in time! They trusted the audience enough to let them sit with these dramatic moments, and they hit even harder because of it.

"Runaway Brain" (1995) Chris Bailey directed the fuck outta this one. So many more dynamic shots during the action that make it feel way more cinematic than the avrage Mickey cartoon. This whole short was animated by a small team in France, and they knocked it outta the park.

"Daffy's Rhapsody" (2012) These Reel FX shorts are the only CGI Looney Tunes I accept. Properly cartoony and faithful to the original designs. Note: This is the theatrical cut, which featured Billy West as Elmer, additional SFX and a full orchestral score by Christopher Lennertz.

Went back and rewatched Bambi this morning, and this moment always hit me the hardest. It's extremely intense in ways that make it clear this was intended as drama akin to any live-action film. Paula Winslowe's anguished line reads as the pheasant are ingrained in my mind.

"If you're making it for kids on PBS or adults in a theater, good timing is good timing. That's why, early on, I always got my timing from WB cartoons. They were shown in theaters for adults, and they weren't condescending. The timing was pitch-perfect on those!" - Conan O'Brien

There's no point in me explaining further why "Flash Tom & Jerry" was such a stupid idea, so have a look at what the 2014 show COULD'VE been. Here's the rough animatic for "Golf Brawl", boarded by Dave Alvarez. It has the look & feel of a classic T&J, polar opposite to the final.

"Supper Villain" (1999) This dinner sequence is an instance where intentional slowness actually works and has a purpose in the story. Just having Harold threaten to shoot Utonium in the head once dinner is over makes the Professor stalling for time feel a lot less meandering.
