My biggest pet peeve in any comedy is when the writers take an already bad joke (if you can call this such, because where do the laughs come in?) and decide to run it into the ground solely so they can kill time. A LOT of 2000s comedy relied on this and it was almost always shit.

"Runaway Brain" (1995) Chris Bailey directed the fuck outta this one. So many more dynamic shots during the action that make it feel way more cinematic than the avrage Mickey cartoon. This whole short was animated by a small team in France, and they knocked it outta the park.

I don't think you'll find a sequence like this in any one episode of Spider-Man TAS, nor *most* animated TV shows up 'til that point in time! They trusted the audience enough to let them sit with these dramatic moments, and they hit even harder because of it.

"Deputy Droopy" (1955) Yes, it's a remake, but it's a damn funny remake. "Rock-a-Bye Bear" was already terrific, but Tex finds new variations on this setup to keep things fresh. Ed Benedict's softer UPA-inspired redesigns are also *gorgeous*.
