Confined to a room and constantly monitored, escape was nearly impossible. For him and the others, the only path to freedom seemed to depend on whether the scams brought in money. But everything changed after one of the victims secretly sent a distress message to The1957News via TikTok. Acting on the information, The1957News alerted the Ghana Police Service. Within 24 hours, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit raided the hideout in Kwabenya, rescued 18 trafficked Nigerian nationals, and arrested several suspects. Today, one of the rescued victims shares his ordeal, a powerful reminder of the role of journalism, public vigilance, and swift police action in saving lives.
