The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi has given a firm push towards transition to electric vehicles through its new Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy, 2026, notified on June 30, 2026. The policy has set aggressive deadlines for three-wheelers, light commercial vehicles like mini trucks and two-wheelers. Only EVs in the first two categories can be registered from January 1, 2027, and a similar deadline is set for two-wheelers on January 1, 2028. Though the policy is right in aiming high, considering Delhi’s pollution problem that is worsening every year, analysis shows that it could be an onerous challenge to meet these targets, especially for two-wheelers. According to sources, the NCP(SP) is considering three options. The first is to merge with the NCP, an idea reportedly suggested by the BJP to keep only one party within the alliance. However, after Ajit Pawar's demise, questions remain over whether the family can unite behind a single leadership. At present, Sharad Pawar is seen as the only leader who is acceptable to everyone. On the ruling side, some leaders are reportedly unhappy with Parth Pawar's functioning, saying he is overly controlling. The second option is to join the NDA separately, though sources say the BJP is not keen on this. The third option is to support the NDA on specific issues without formally joining the alliance.
