"In the Fading Light" North of Madden Alberta 20250405T0344Z Catching substorms of this magnitude is what drives me to get out there. This geomagnetic auroral event was not a usual occurrence, and in my opinion was an anomaly, and more than likely due to a combination of effects, the weakening magnetic field, the shifting poles, a negative CH HSS, and the IMF direction of towards. "The Knowledge Is Out There" Northeast of Calgary Alberta 20251112T0430Z This timelapse is made up of 276 images shot every 3 seconds, at ISO 5000, 1.3 sec at F2.8 with a Laowa 12mm mounted on a Nikon D810A(astromod). I am shooting at 1.3 to capture the movement of the aurora, and at 3 second intervals so I don't use up my memory in my card in case the aurora goes all night. Although I have backup memory cards, I am trying to minimize the amount of images that I take, on a typical night I am shooting somewhere around 10,000 images. I am at 20 Terabytes of images this year... this particular night, I shot 15,000 images. One of the toughest decision one can make when shooting reflection aurora is how much of the reflection can you get without missing out on the auroral pillars, there's 2 choices use portrait mode or use a wider lens, I choose the latter and use a Laowa 12mm, if the aurora is going nuts I use both options with a second camera. #Aurora #Auroraborealis #northernlights

"When You Think You've Seen It All" Seebe Alberta 20251030T1130Z When you think you've seen it all you better think twice. In the ever changing geomagnetic storms this night was one of those unique displays. More than like likely the oddest that I have been privy to experience. Instead of your normal diffuse aurora band forming, and then developing into discrete auroral pillars. This substorm started out with a pulsating aurora, and then moved into a pulsating everything, from a pulsating Nitrogen band to pulsating red pillars the aurora threw a gamut pulsating features that had me "Mouth wide open"", with sublime features and colours that really were unbelievable.
