The Doors’ Live in Copenhagen presents a previously unreleased concert recorded at Falkoner Centret in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 17, 1968. The 2-LP set pressed on crystal-clear vinyl features the entire early show, including electrifying performances of “Break On Through (To The Other Side),” “Light My Fire” and “Hello, I Love You,” among others. On this day in 1967, Ray and Dorothy Fujikawa got married at City Hall in Los Angeles. They were inseparable from the moment they met at UCLA until Ray’s passing in 2013. Dorothy and Ray met when she sat next to him in her first art class, "Drawing 10A." At the time, Ray was a film student taking the class to learn how to draw storyboards for movies. The rest is history.

When The Doors learned that Van Morrison’s band THEM would be joining the lineup during their residency at the Whisky a Go Go, they nervously pulled their cover of “Gloria” from the set list. As the week went on and the bands got to know each other, “Gloria” made its way back into the lineup, ending with both bands joining together to perform it on the final night. Some songs just have a way of finding their way back.

Although the track was never released as a single, its rhythm and unconventional structure has made it a fan favorite for decades. “They were just starting out with it, clapping and stuff for the rhythm and everything, and somehow they couldn't work out the music angle to it. Long before music videos became standard, Jac Holzman had an idea: create a film to help introduce The Doors’ debut album and first single, “Break On Through.” Directed by Mark Abramson and filmed entirely on Jac’s 16mm camera, the performance footage was shot on a dark soundstage with colorful lighting and later synced to the studio version of “Break On Through.” The film was then distributed to television stations, theaters, and music venues to help introduce audiences to the band. Watch it here:

Did you know that the gritty bassline on "Roadhouse Blues" wasn't played by a session regular, but by Blues legend Lonnie Mack? At the time of the MORRISON HOTEL sessions, Mack had actually quit the music industry to sell Bibles. He was recruited by the band to provide that signature "chugging" rhythm. The session was so high-energy that it reportedly inspired Mack to come out of retirement and jump back into his own music career. “Let it roll,” and listen to “Roadhouse Blues” here:
