*Press Release* *Deputy Commissioner Shangla Chess Championship Concludes Successfully* 07 Jan,2025 *Shangla:* The Deputy Commissioner Shangla Chess Championship concluded successfully, marking a historic milestone for mind sports and youth development in the district. The championship was organized with the support of the *District Administration Shangla and District Youth Affairs, in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chess Association (KPCA) and The Gift of Chess.* The event witnessed the participation of over 100 players from Shangla District and neighboring districts, reflecting the growing popularity of chess in the region. In the highly competitive Open Category, *Salman Ali Khan* emerged as the champion, followed by *Jamal Nasir* as runner-up. *Amin Khan* secured third position, *Musawir Kakar* finished fourth, and *Farman Ullah Khan* claimed fifth position. *Shaheer Nawab* was declared the Best Performer of the tournament for his outstanding play. In the Women Category, *Shaista Bibi* won the championship, while *Shabana* secured the runner-up position. *Nehal Hayat* finished third, *Muneeba* stood fourth, and *Rohma Khalid* secured fifth position, highlighting the growing participation and talent of women in chess in Shangla. Addressing the closing ceremony, the *Deputy Commissioner Shangla Muhammad Fawad* appreciated the organizers, players, and volunteers for making the event a success. He emphasized that chess is a healthy and intellectual activity that promotes discipline, critical thinking, and positive engagement among youth, and assured continued support for such initiatives in the future. The *District Youth Officer Shangla Farhad Ali* remarked that events like the DC Shangla Chess Championship provide constructive platforms for young people, helping them channel their energy into positive and skill-building activities. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to promoting sports and mind games across the district. Speaking on the occasion, the *Vice President KP Chess Association and Ambassador of The Gift of Chess to Pakistan M. Salman Khan* highlighted that chess is a mind sport and an indoor game with immense potential to develop key 21st-century skills, including problem-solving, decision-making, concentration, patience, and strategic thinking. He added that such healthy activities play a pivotal role in youth development and will significantly contribute to shaping a brighter future for the youth of Shangla. At the end of the ceremony, cash prizes, shields, chess sets, and certificates were distributed among the position holders. The event concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to continue promoting chess and intellectual sports at the grassroots level in Shangla District. Salman Khan
