After more than a year of negotiations, Canada’s negotiators are coming home and another tariff fight is beginning. So THIS is why Mark Carney’s trade deal collapsed. After months of “constructive” talks, “progress” and assurances from Ottawa, Carney finally tells Canadians what happened. He says the U.S. demanded: • Medium and heavy-duty trucks excluded from the auto deal. • Restrictions on Canada signing other trade deals. • Restrictions affecting Canadian language, culture and sovereignty. Carney says those last-minute demands killed the deal. Fair enough. But Carney was elected as the “master negotiator.” Canada was told his experience and connections were exactly what we needed to deal with Trump. Now there’s no deal.
