In this 1995 video from Friends, Chandler describes his new laptop: - 12 MB of RAM - 500MB hard drive - 28.8K modem This was a power users laptop - the average user at the time had 4MB of RAM, a 200MB hard drive, and a 14.4KB modem. His laptop had more power than an average home computer of the era, and for what reason? Games. Nothing changes. 😆

Super Mario World was released in 1991, it took someone over 20 years to discover that you can actually defeat the boo ghost in the castle stage, preventing it from chasing you all over the map.

The PlayStation 2 was the all-time best selling video game console ever created, selling over 160M units. It was released in August 2000, making it about 26 years old. Many people bought them because they were cheaper than a DVD player and could also play games.

Before online gaming and widespread broadband internet, we had LAN parties. You would haul your 80 lb CRT, computer tower, and peripherals over to your friend's house and hook them up on a makeshift desk. Then you would proceed to take the next 3 hours installing the game and game crack you wanted to play with your friends; by this point it was 11 pm and no real gaming had occurred yet. At around 1 am you would be mid game and someone would get hungry - so everyone would head down to Taco Bell for a late night snack. It was the best of times.

Nintendo introduced the "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality" in the mid-1980s to rebuild trust after the 1983 Video Game Crash. The crash was caused by a flood of low-quality, poorly made third-party games, such as E.T. for Atari, destroying consumer confidence in video games. The Nintendo quality seal reassured customers that games were officially licensed through Nintendo, assuring 'quality' games. This also controlled the market of games, limiting how many third party companies could create or release games for the system - which led some to say it was anticompetitive.

What if World of Warcraft was redone and they removed all the cartoonie graphics? Would it still hold its appeal or does the cartoon look contain a special nostalgic value that would change the game too much? 🤔

The NES game Top Gun came out in 1987. Despite what the commercial said, landing on the aircraft carrier was nearly an impossible task. Millions of kids had to ditch their F-14 into the ocean and admit they didn't have what it took. 😖
