As a young boy who survived the Tamil Genocide, I am honoured to stand in the Ontario Legislature, acknowledging the passage of Bill 104 - Tamil Genocide Education Week Act which is a law in Ontario. During Tamil Genocide Education Week, May 12th - 18th, we unite to educate, remember, and prevent such horrors from repeating again. Tamil people worldwide honour the memory of those we lost in #Mullivaikkal and throughout history. We bear witness to the Tamil genocide that, tragically, persists to this day. #Bill104 #TamilGenocide

I am appalled by the recent events in #Kurunthoormalai as the Sri Lankan state is preventing the Tamil people from practicing their religion at the ancient Aathi Sivan Ayyanar Temple. Over the past years, this site as been continously desecrated despite multiple court orders to respect the site. In the past few days, over 100 police officers and Buddhist monks are preventing the festivities through violent aggression and force, denying Tamil people the universal freedom to worship. This is not the first time that the Sri Lankan state has desecrated ancient Tamil worship sites, as #culturalgenocide is an ongoing reality for the Tamil people. #TamilGenocide

The Tamil genocide is ongoing, taking various forms, including cultural genocide. It is crucial that we understand the atrocities committed against the Tamil people and the continuous erasure of Tamil heritage. Since the independence of Sri Lanka, a calculated plan to annihilate the Tamil community has unfolded. From the burning of the Jaffna Library in 1981 to the more recent destruction of the Vedukkunaari mountain temple, the Sri Lankan state continues to erase the language, history, and rich culture of the Tamil people. It is only through education that we can prevent such crimes against humanity and genocide from happening again. #TamilGenocide #CulturalGenocide #TamilGenocideEducationWeek #Bill104

Today, Tamil people in Canada and across the world mark Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day In May 2009, the state of Sri Lanka orchestrated a heightened program of genocide - targeting no-fire zones and hospitals and denying food and medicine to people in #Mullivaikkal. Today, we honour the countless innocent lives lost in the #TamilGenocide and reaffirm our commitment to ensure that history never repeats itself. We must never remain silent, we must continue to share their stories. We Remember 🕯💛❤️ #TamilGenocideRemembranceDay

We are making progress on the Scarborough Subway Extension! 🚇 For decades, previous governments have neglected the transportation needs of Scarborough residents. As someone who grew up in Scarborough and relied on public transit to get to work and school, I know how important it is to have a connected transit system. I recently toured the future site of the Scarborough Subway Extension alongside Min. Prabmeet Sarkaria and my Scarborough colleagues to see the progress being made in making this line a reality for Scarborough residents!
