The Prince of Wales will not make a film about Diana, Princess of Wales, to mark the 30th anniversary of his mother’s death next year to avoid a potential further conflict with his brother. Prince William, who was 15 when Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, is understood to have declined several offers to make or appear in documentary tributes to his late mother as the date approaches. Last week sources close to Prince Harry confirmed he had discussed “a number of possible projects” to mark the anniversary “in the most meaningful way”, including a film. It is thought that Netflix, which has a “first look” deal with the Sussexes and made a six-part series with the couple in 2022, is in the running for a film Tap here to read more:

Has one of Hitler's mysteries finally been sold? In September 1931, just as Adolf Hitler was beginning to build real momentum at the ballot boxes of the late Weimar republic, a 23-year-old woman was found dead in his Munich apartment with a gunshot wound in one of her lungs. This was Geli Raubal, the daughter of his half-sister, Angela. She had moved into her “Uncle Alf’s” spacious flat on Prinzregentenplatz in 1929. Who is “Danny Tommo”? Hard-right activist, Daniel Thomas, attempted to sink a dinghy while it had a lifeboat rescuer on board, as migrants were brought to the UK following an estimated 40 hours in a small boat. Thomas, founder of the anti-migration group Patriot Platform, who was previously jailed for attempted kidnapping, appeared to have endangered the life of a rescuer by slashing a dinghy at sea after migrants had moved off it. Andy Burnham’s summer was the start that any prime minister would want. A relaxed PM — a look I never quite mastered — touring the country and getting maximum bang for his buck from a string of small yet symbolically significant policies. But this autumn will pose a very different challenge. It will be dominated by the budget. Burnham and his chancellor, John Healey, must avoid repeating the mistake of the last two years: constant, confidence-sapping speculation about which taxes will rise. To be fair, our new prime minister appears to appreciate this. Burnham has said he picked the earliest possible date for an autumn budget to avoid a repeat of last year’s endless chatter. Is Charles now a King under siege? The latest chapter of the Windsor saga has seared further family discord into the history books, with Earl Spencer’s claims about the King in his new memoir on Diana, Princess of Wales. Among the bombs that have exploded ahead of the book’s publication on Tuesday, are allegations that during a heated phone call after Diana’s death, the then Prince Charles hissed down the phone “Rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough.” Spencer also claimed Charles sounded “giddily elated” hours after her death. Earl Spencer’s book is full of gossip — but it’s also moving. Swan Song: Diana, My Sister could’ve been a nice coffeetable book, full of pictures and Diana’s own hand-written notes, but instead he’s used her memory to settle personal scores. He has described it as being motivated by a sense of “duty” to correct some “untruths” about his sister. An over-prescribing epidemic is leading to thousands of elderly people being admitted to hospital suffering reactions to cocktails of medicines. A Sunday Times investigation by Shaun Lintern has found doctors are routinely giving out potentially harmful levels of medication to elderly patients, leading to falls, low blood pressure, dizziness and irregular heartbeats. Almost eight million people in the UK are at risk of medical side-effects because they are being prescribed five or more drugs to take daily. About 2.2 million take ten drugs a day, a study published earlier this year reveals. The Sunday Times wants the NHS and government to do something to address the problem, which is why we’ve launched a campaign calling for more training on the risks of over-prescribing, better monitoring for patients and an increase in the number of geriatricians to carry out full reviews of older frail people and the drugs they are taking 🔗 Tap the link to read more:

Nearly 20 years after the murder of British student Meredith Kercher, Amanda Knox, will perform at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in a controversial stand up comedy set called 'Cartwheel', a reference to the exercises that Knox, was said to have performed in custody after her arrest on suspicion of murdering her 21-year-old British flatmate in Perugia, Italy. Kate Mansey, Assistant Editor of The Times reported on the crime in 2007 and was the first journalist to secure an interview with Raffaele Sollecito, Knox's then Italian boyfriend. Knox was convicted of the murder in 2009 along Sollecito. She was sentenced to 26 years in prison but her conviction was overturned in 2011. Two years after that, the acquittal was overturned and a retrial ordered, with an appeals court convicting Knox of murder for a second time. But in 2015, the Italian Supreme Court definitively acquitted her. Sollecito was also acquitted and Rudy Guede, an Ivorian student who had a record of burglaries, was found guilty and sentenced to serve 16 years. Amanda Knox, 39, started performing comedy last summer, basing some of her material on her prison ordeal and its damage to her reputation after the case sparked global headlines in 2007. 🔗 Tap the link to read our review of 'Cartwheel' 👇
