18th September - International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia Press Briefing ❝Despite the signing of the cessation of hostilities agreement in #Pretoria last November, more than ten months later, the situation in Ethiopia remains grave. The signing of the agreement has neither resolved the conflict nor brought about comprehensive peace. Violent confrontations in Ethiopia are now at a near national scale, with significant violations ongoing in #Tigray, #Oromia and increasingly in Amhara region. It's hard to overstate the gravity of the violence, which has taken place in Ethiopia since November 2020. We've documented mass killings, rapes, starvations, destructions of schools and medical facilities, forced displacements and mass arbitrary detentions amounting to both War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity. Many of these violations are ongoing, our research confirm that #Eritrean troops and #Amhara Forces & Militia [#Fano] members continue to commit grave violations in Tigray including rape and sexual violence of women and girls. We also documented the continued forced expulsion of #Tigrayans from #WesternTigray with tens of thousands of women, men and children unable to return to their homes.❞ Mohamed Chande Othman, Chair of the International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia #RenewICHREE United Nations-TV 🔗 #Ethiopia & #Eritrea are guilty of #TigrayGenocide

For over 3 years, these victims endured great hardship of Brutal Ethnic Cleansing campaign perpetrated by #Amhara and #Eritrean soldiers in Western and North #WesternTigray. It's been over a year and half since the signing of the #Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement which specifies for internally displayed persons to be returned back to their homes, however the #Ethiopian government has not been implemented this clause as IDPs suffer in deplorable conditions. 9th August - IDPs and Shelter Needs in Northwest and Southern #Tigray Since November 2020, a devastating in Tigray has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis in the Tigray region. According to the IOM Data Tracking Matrix (DTM), in June 2024 alone, an additional 33,100 people were displaced in the Tigray region, bringing the total number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to over 840,815 out of which over 146,893 individuals are living in collective centers or have formed informal settlements, often in harsh conditions. In the Northwestern Tigray region, where the weather can be extreme, makeshift shelters constructed with grass and other substandard materials are vulnerable to heavy rains and strong winds. These IDPs face immense challenges, including a severe lack of adequate shelter and essential non-food items (NFIs) such as cooking utensils, bedding, and hygiene kits. Despite the desperate need, assistance has been limited, leaving many without sufficient protection and support. Financial constraints have further compounded the issue, with many IDPs unable to afford rent. Consequently, they have moved from host communities into overcrowded collective centers, including schools and public buildings, where the living conditions are cramped and unsanitary. On average, more than 10 households are crammed into a single room, exacerbating the already difficult circumstances. The crisis is most acute in the Northwestern Tigray region of Northern Ethiopia, particularly in districts (woredas) like Seyemti Adiyabo, Asgede, Sheraro, and Tahtay Adiyabo. The situation remains critical, with urgent needs for shelter, non-food items, and cash-based interventions, especially rental support, to improve these displaced populations' living conditions and safety. The required support includes emergency shelter construction, distribution of basic household items, and rental support, all crucial for addressing the pressing needs of the affected communities. 25th June - Meaza Gidey Gebremedhin on Ethiopia's "Transitional Justice" for the Genocide committed in #Tigray ❝There are concrete evidences that prove what happened was indeed a state-led Genocide that resulted in the killing and the massacre of over half a million people, and the conflict related sexual violence of over 350,000 young girls and women. But despite these facts, they are independently verified, the State Department, and others said the US government continues to push for a Transitional Justice. Transitional Justice in a very simple term is like reconciliation or forgiving, and moving forward. We don't believe, I personally as an International Relations Researcher, and as a Human Rights Defender do not believe Transitional Justice would lead towards stability and peace. What could lead towards sustainable peace in Ethiopia is, real accountability and Justice mechanism that the people continue to call for. This is not really a call only coming from the people in Tigray, I believe this is a call that is echoed across the board by all Ethiopians. There is a very legitimate reason why that's the case, why we don't think transitional Justice will lead Ethiopia towards sustainable peace and stability. One, the federal government controls all Judiciary mechanisms in Ethiopia including the Supreme Court, doesn't have the political will nor the commitment to render Justice for the crimes it committed. Two, the Ethiopian Judiciary System doesn't have the capacity to adjudicate crimes as grave as weaponized sexual violence, and man-made famine, and massacre. Third, and the most important thing is the conflict in Tigray was not a local conflict, it was a regional conflict that involved #Eritrean, #Somalia to a certain degree, #UAE United Arab Emirates and many other countries, and so there has to be a Justice and accountability mechanism that truly reflects the reality, and has the intention, and the capacity to forge a better path going forward. But what's happening today as it has been echoed earlier when folks from the State Department were talking is that the US Government, and others haven't seen enough of the evil nature of the Federal government, they haven't seen enough of how little to no regard the Federal government has when it comes to Human Rights, and they want to continue giving them chance to kill and and massacre more people, and marginalized even more people in the Nation. So really the solution here is for Global, or International Partners including the US Government to have a well informed foreign policy towards Ethiopia. Foreign policy that centers the aspirations, and the political wishes of the #Ethiopian people and not necessarily the few that continue to influence the Foreign Policy. The last thing I would say is, ensuring that there is a victim centered approach to everything that we do, as we continue to aspire and to hope, to create a better future for Ethiopians. We have to make sure that our advocacy centers, on the voices of the victims.❞ Oromia 11 🔗 #Ethiopia & #Eritrea are guilty of #TigrayGenocide

This happened in front of their family members, it happened in front of their communities, some women have decided to end their lives 💔 as a result. Many of the women in #Tigray are living with all of this, and without any post-rape care, or any Justice. In northern Ethiopia, the federal Ombudsman says as many as 400 people starved to death over the past six months. Among the regions where the situation is most desperate is Tigray, due to the ongoing drought and conflict. 3rd May - #Tigrayan Civilians Were The Target of a 'Relentless Ethnic Cleansing Campaign' @TouzeSebastien: ❝Since November 2020, the authorities and the #Amhara security forces have been waging a merciless campaign of what you might call ethnic cleansing to try and drive out the #Tigray people out of Western Tigray. They're doing this with the consent and the potential participation of the #Ethiopian Federal forces, to do this they resort to threats, to unlawful homicides, sexual violence, the use arbitrary detentions on a massive scale, as well as pillaging, force transfers and deprivation of Humanitarian Aid.❞ - The United Nations's Committee Against Torture on #WesternTigray 🔗 ---------------------------------------- 6th April 2022 - Amnesty International & @HumanRightsWatch Released Joint Investigations of Ethnic Cleansing in Western #Tigray ❝We Will Erase You from This Land.❞ Crimes Against Humanity and Ethnic Cleansing in Ethiopia’s #WesternTigray Zone Full Report: Human Rights Watch 🔗 Full Report: Amnesty International 🔗 Video: HRW 🔗 ---------------------------------------- On 20 March 2023 Department of State Released Atrocity Determination, Secretary Antony Blinken: ❝Members of the #Amhara forces also committed the crime against humanity of deportation or forcible transfer and committed ethnic cleansing in western Tigray.❞ 🔗 #Ethiopia & #Eritrea are guilty of #TigrayGenocide

Two Years ago today 💔 4th May 2021 - Meaza Gidey Gebremedhin: ❝The war started well long ago. Right after Abiy Ahmed Ali 🇪🇹 was selected by the EPRDF, he forged a military pact with a neighboring country (Isaias Afewerki). They have been working together to wage war against the people of #Tigray. The #Eritrean government through its President had been seen visiting military camps, participating in all internal affairs of the country. There was also a report by the European Union Josep Borrell Fontelles 🔗 ⚠️ Warning about a war looming, and this is mainly because they had evidence showing Tigray being encircled not only by Eritrean troops but also by the #Amhara militia and the #Ethiopian National army. Having said that, what's happening in Tigray is devastating, people do not have access to Humanitarian Aid. 4.5 million people are starving, they're facing a man-made famine according to the United Nations report.❞ Neamin Zeleke supported the Genocidal campaign in Tigray with the involvement of Eritrean forces, Amhara including all other regional forces. He even went as far as to admit that #Somalian 🇸🇴 forces who committed Atrocities were in Tigray 🔗 ❝[Ethiopia] It had to scramble including bringing forces as far away as from #Somalia to deploy in Tigray. 18th January - Nima Elbagir, CNN Chief International Investigative Correspondent on her horrific investigation that uncovered evidence of the torture, mass detention and execution of residents in the besiege #Tigray town of #Humera. The Department of State ❝After spending three or four months investigating whether or not they issue a Genocide designation for the atrocities committed in Tigray, while we were releasing pieces like this and academics and other journalists were being harrassed in person and online, people's reputation were being destroyed. The US decided that it was actually going to hold its Genocide designation, because it believe that it could deliver peace. It took over a year for there to be negotiated peace settlement.❞ - Nima Elbagir #Ethiopian, along with #Eritrean, #Amhara including all regional forces of Ethiopia killed over 800,000 people in Tigray. The ethnic cleansing of #WesternTigray continues as well as death by starvation as Tigray remains besieged and the lack of provision of humanitarian aid.
