With gold-plated fountains, imported stone and nearly 74,000 square feet of interior space, the Versailles-inspired Caesarea mansion embodies a level of wealth once unimaginable in Israel. The property is accessible only to a tiny circle of the ultra‑wealthy around the world, even as interest in Israel’s ultra-luxury real estate market has exploded over the last decade, said real estate broker Amir Davidson. After more than four hours, the ultra-Orthodox anti-conscription protest convoys, which set out from around the country to protest the detention of draft evading yeshiva students, have turned around and begun heading home. Most of the demonstrators do not appear to have reached their destination, the Neve Tzedek (Beit Lid) military prison in Kfar Yona, where police turned away anyone who showed up. The head of one Haredi yeshiva nevertheless managed to set up a truck near the prison from which he blasted messages of encouragement to the incarcerated draft evaders via megaphone. The protests were marked by scattered clashes and car accidents but did not culminate in any violence at Kfar Yona itself, where residents gathered at the city entrance in a bid to block demonstrators from entering the neighborhood of the prison. “The decision to end the protest at this hour stems from a deep sense of responsibility and consideration for the traveling public and families on the road,” the organizers say, claiming that “nearly 10,000 vehicle owners” took part in the demonstration. The protest, they say, sent a “resounding message: Enough! There is no path forward without the path of Torah! The Haredi public has ceased to remain silent in the face of the trampling of the Torah world and the imposition of sanctions, and will stand firmly for its rights.” They call for authorities to “immediately release” jailed draft evaders and “cancel all decrees” against yeshiva students. “If the demands of the Haredi public fall on deaf ears, the [organizing] committee will consider additional, surprising courses of action, in accordance with” rabbinic guidance, they conclude. Extremist settlers attacked Palestinians in some 20 locations across the West Bank on Saturday night, a security source told The Times of Israel, with assailants torching homes, vehicles and other property. Earlier on Saturday, Yehuda Sherman, an 18-year-old settler, was killed when a Palestinian-owned pickup truck hit the ATV he and his brother were traveling in close to the illegal settlement outpost where they lived. No casualties were immediately reported from the fires, but the Palestinian Red Crescent said three people were injured in beatings by settlers in the village of Jalud, and six others were injured in beatings in villages in the Jenin area. A statement from the IDF spokesperson said reports were received of “Israeli citizens who burned buildings and property, and disturbed the peace in the area.” The statement said troops were working to restore order, and added that Israel’s security forces “condemn violence of any kind and will continue working to protect residents’ security and order in the area.” There were, however, no reports of arrests, which are highly rare in instances of settler violence. Attacks by extremist settlers have been taking place on a near-daily basis in recent weeks. Continue reading on The Times of Israel:

As Iran increasingly launches ballistic missiles carrying cluster bomb warheads at Israel, indiscriminately spreading dozens of small munitions over a wide area, the Israeli Air Force faces a constant dilemma whether or not to shoot them down. Military officials said Thursday that since the cluster bombs are unlikely to cause significant harm if civilians are sheltering, there are times when the IAF chooses not to shoot down all or some of the bomblets to conserve its stockpile of short-range interceptors. Iran has fired over 350 ballistic missiles at Israel since the start of the war on February 28.
