If Friday’s Starship launch goes accordingly, SpaceX could attempt the first ever *ship and booster *catch as soon as Flight 9, per recent FCC filings. This monumental achievement - over 20 years in the making - would set the record for the first fully reusable orbital rocket, and usher in a new era of spaceflight to allow our species to support a permanent and sustainable human presence beyond Earth orbit.

The completion of this landing and ascent verification test validated the overall design, engine shutdown procedures, and the integration of the GNC and propulsion subsystems.
