If Friday’s Starship launch goes accordingly, SpaceX could attempt the first ever *ship and booster *catch as soon as Flight 9, per recent FCC filings. This monumental achievement - over 20 years in the making - would set the record for the first fully reusable orbital rocket, and usher in a new era of spaceflight to allow our species to support a permanent and sustainable human presence beyond Earth orbit.

The country is pushing to land astronauts on the Moon’s surface before 2030, and this successful test was a huge step forward. The completion of this landing and ascent verification test validated the overall design, engine shutdown procedures, and the integration of the GNC and propulsion subsystems.
